Checking how the trans lines up to the rear end?/

tape measure?
just to make sure each is centered in the car.
an alignment rack will give you a trust angle for the rear axle also

thrust angle is the best way to do this. should be zero degrees unless its a circle track car. also measure from the center of the balancer bolt to both framerails, and the same with the trans tailshaft. the measurements should be within close tolerance of each other, say about 1/16 of an inch or less if you want it perfect. pinion shaft is off-center on ford axles, but you can center the rear axle by using plomb bobs to measure the distance between the axle tube flanges and the rear framerails.

Are you trying to center the rearend or sanity check driveshaft angles ? If you are trying to center the rear end just let that idea go.Get an alignment shop set the thrust angle. Given the variation in housing and trans engine center lines its a tough call. motor and trans mount and after market control arms with modified axles could have everything off cenetr alot.

If you need to know driveshaft angularity then simply use a string and a protractor.

A good alignment is cheap unless the car is an absolute disaster.

Is there a tool I can put on the center of the tailshaft of my trans to see how it lines up with the rear end?
