Cheapest way to move items out of state

Hey guys, I'm here seeking some helpful advice. I'm looking to move to Florida with my girlfriend in the next few months so I stated looking at moving trucks and they're insanely expensive....Almost $2000 to use the truck for one day,and to only drive it down there one way.....there has to be a cheaper option...I do have a 14 ram v6 but I'm trying to stay away from pulling a huge trailer that whole way as I don't have a ton of experience pulling large trailers. Please help or point me in the right direction.
 
Really? When I looked into uhauls to Arizona it was only like $1400. I'm just renting a full size van and throwing my shit and bike in the back.
 
That price had varying sizes .... from a 12' van to a 15' van ( oddly being the cheapest I've found ) My biggest item is my bed ( king size) other than that I'll only be bringing my pit bike ( Race car has to go :( ) , clothes, and some small furniture from the girlfriends house.
 
Call around. I moved a bunch of furniture from NJ to MI many years ago. I think I ended up using Penske as they had a better 1-way price at the time. I reserved a 15' truck and ended up with a 20 or 25'. It was HUGE and speed limited to 65mph. That was a long trip.....

This. When I moved to Miami in 2012, I just packed what I could in my Explorer and bought furniture when I got down there. Furnished my entire apartment for $800 cash. The further south you go in Florida, the more they are willing to budge on prices.

Ive never used one, but several close friends of mine have, and they were quite happy with them.
They liked being able to take a few extra days/week to pack & unpack.
I also have had some customers that had very large enclosed trailers that moved peoples belongings for a living. They did the packing & unpacking.... not real cheap but cheaper than a moving company.

This is what I did the last time I moved. I had a 8 month wait
to get into my new place. So I bought 2 buses (not school) from
the state of Michigan auction, removed the seats (some guy wanted
them) & loaded my stuff on them.

I stored them on a friends farm for 8 months, then drove them to
the new place & unloaded them & sold the buses for a little more than
I had paid for them.

This was by far the cheapest way I found to moving / storing items.
 
You can ship a full semi to Florida for $1000. It is just how you go about it. Get yourself some Gaylords and pallets. a Gaylord is a 48x48x 48 box. Pack up as many as you want to move and get a quote from either FedEx or any other shipper on a price for lift gate pickup and delivery. You will need a pallet jack but they can be had for $100 on craigslist. For the bed it is a little more difficult do to size. They just don't want to have to fuck with your stuff. If it is all palletized and ready to go shipping will be cheap. Just my 2 cents :).
