Cheap but effective turbos?

Well I started building my lx this time last year and I'm still not finished. Motors done just need a nice pair of turbos for it but my budget is shot. Motor is a svo block prepped by DSS, DSS x7 408 bottom, topped off with a set of Twisted wedge 205's (upgraded to LS valve train) by TEA and a efi super vic. Motors 8.5x1, I'm shooting for around 1000hp at the rear on pump gas...I already have a T4 headers and hot side from B&G custom turbos..just need to find a nice set of turbos...any ideas?

Also, anyone running an AMS1000 on there street car?

interested again to see someone use turbo and cheap in the same sentence....I wouldn't spend a ton of cash on a long block and then put a pile of junk turbo on it to grenade and destroy your engine...That's just me though....

yep- S480 would be sweet....and cheap

with the big hotside 1.32ar and the 96mm turbine wheel. It'll be about as big as you'd wanna go with a sub 6500rpm SBF at 408ci. Would run like a mofo. Why build a s480 when the s483 pretty much costs the same.

I've seen people pick up turbos from a 10+ liter Cummins or Cat, and get 500hp out of a stock block and the turbo isn't even sweating. I've heard stories of a lot more though. Holset makes the turbos. Big and heavy, but reliable and cheap. Only problem is that some of them have internal wastegates, so avoid those.

I should have stated that by cheap I ment like under 1800, more around 1000 per turbo. But I have since decided to go with a pair of precision billet 6768's
