Charger 8 speed transmission funny downshifts?

Wanted to see if anyone else noticed this. We bought a used 2015 Charger SXT for the wife. Today I noticed if I am coasting on a residential street around 25-30 mph it will downshift on its own from 5th gear to 3rd gear. Is this some kind of programming for engine braking to limit wear and tare on the brakes? Or is this abnormal?

Most vehicles do it now. My 14 Sierra does it and it drives me nuts. Take your foot off the gas and it about stops itself. I turn the grade braking off every time I get in
 
Sxt may have a sport button in the screen selection. If it does, turn sport on and it will help a lot.

I have heard a lot about the 8 spd being funny when paired up with the v6.

To be honest, my 2016 hemi had some funny shifting every once in a while when I first got it. When it went in for the first oil change they flashed the transmission and it got rid of the problem.
 
They have too many gears now and the car scrambles to find the right one. Just new shit on all late model vehicles to get used to.
 
As mentioned, too many gears, always trying to find the optimal rev/speed for best fuel economy...

Is it the V6?
 
Just my opinion...
Murica's vehicles would need to go on a huge diet and possibly settle for subpar tq/hp ratings to put in place a future for CVT's.
