Changing trans

My Opinion, look at a for 4l80e as already stated . The 6l80 is pretty kickass, but getting the controls to work with that vintage of engine controller will be a total b****. It can be done with an aftermarket controller, but those run at least $1,000, which is money that could be spent on upgrading either 4 speed transmission.

The simple way to two wheel drive is to delete the transfer case Convert the transmission - 2 wheel drive delete the front drive shaft and the front axle. Leave the outer CV is to keep the bearings alive as others have already said. If you have your heart set on coil springs, & I don't know why, you are honest to god best bet is to find a two wheel drive suburban chassis and swap it out. It is way simpler than converting that front suspension and a bolt-on solution

Humm good to know. My buddy's 800whp g8 blew the stock one quick. The performance re-build holds it, but still shifts like trash. I had a built 4l80 behind a nitrous 454lsx and it was great.

How would he get the ecu to command shifting via the 6 speed? Can you get a newer ecu and repin the harness?
The ECM won't talk to that 6-speed transmission controller. You can update the engine controller, but then you have to go to a 58 58 X crank trigger and all that goes with that. Then the ECM won't talk to the BCM it's a freaking mess. Something won't work right you may be able to figure out a good chunk of it but something won't function properly somewhere

I was trying to convert to coil spring to get more of a drop. But after doing more digging and measuring it won't work unless I want to cut and weld more stuff. I talked to djm suspension and I'm just going with there lowered control arms and torsion keys and get a 6 inch drop out of it. As far as trans go yeah been reading up on it.

Its all about the tune. Have your friend seek out the services of Dr Phil or if hes a HP tuners guy he can subscribe to http://6l80etuning.com/

My thought on this build was it might be less of a headache to just start out with a later 6.2L/6L80 trans & harness. With minimal upgrades they seem to hold up well to power adders like a turbo.
With keeping the older 6.0 and adding a turbo, a stock 4l80e will not suffice. He will need to have one modified & purchase a good converter, add in some small harness changes & proper tuning and a good drive shaft (It might get a bit long in this vehicle). Once the motor & trans is done then the rear axle will be too weak. Once the axle is upgraded traction will become a issue.... I envision lots of milk white burnouts with this vehicle. ;)

Could take his stock 6.0, add some forged pistons and rods with a nice ported head and turbo cam say 2K. Buy a built 4l80 for 3K, good stall for 1k, then spend about 3K on a turbo set up for the same price as the 6.2/6l80 drop out.

I can't believe the money people get for lsx drop outs, heck I went to a junkyard here in Clarkston and they wanted 1K for a 5.3 with 140K wiring harness and ecu. Nuts I tell yeah.

im running my 6.0 already have a turbo cam in it. Gonna run a 4l80 now with a converter and a 75/76 mill turbo
