$4000 new (the were $8000 for the first few years), $1100 OBO
Celestron Ultima 2000 8-Inch SCT Telescope. This telescope model is arguably the best commercially-produced SCT made over the past 20 years. The optics were hand-matched and factory aligned, and the quality of manufacturing exceeds other Celestron and Meade models.
- The scope is fully GOTO with a 10,000 object library. Even more unique, it has a clutch system so that it can also be moved like a Dobsonian while maintaining alignment.
- The optics are in outstanding condition, and the brightness and contrast of this scope exceeds the 6 or so other SCTs I have personally owned. Based on the almost text-book star test i believe this optics approach 1/8 wave spherical aberration, which is a very high level of quality.
- The scope has a Fastar compatible secondary mirror, which when purchased allows a very fast f/1.95 optical system.
- The primary and secondary optical surfaces are pyrex for low thermal expansion and have Starbright coatings to increase transmission
Aperture - 203mm
Focal length - 2030mm (F/10)
Optical tube length - 16 inches
Weight of telescope and forks - 31 lbs
Weight of tripod - 19 lbs
10-degree slewing speed with dual motors on each axis ( a high speed and a low speed motor for each)
Fully enclosed factory installed optical encoders
Precision worm drives 288 teeth
Low power consumption - runs of 8 AA batteries for 20 hours (or 12V adaptor which is not included)
RS-232 port allows use of computer connection
Mirror shift is minimal
