ok, so heres the deal. i live in tn and have all my money in tn credit union. i am going to mi to visit relatives and on my way i am going to look at a classic car in oh. i don't want to carry that much cash with me and theres only a chance that i make the deal. how can i go about quickly cashing a check from my credit union for $12000-$15000 cash? do credit unions have agreements with each other? is there any bank that will cash it? i'm stumped at what to do. thanks in advance for all advice.

Can't you get a cashier's check for the amount you need and give it to the guy if you like what you see? If not, you could just plop it back in your account and you are only out a buck or so for the check.

Talk to your bank rep before leaving town and advise you may make a large purchase on a car. Just ask for their suggestions. Get the name of the rep. As Ryan said above, the money can be transfered.

X3, Wire transfer would be the best/most painless transaction for out of state stuff.
