Kind of bugs me after seeing this list that 6 out 10 of the most purchased vehicles from the cash for clunkers program is all foreign.

I understand this being for Fuel economy but how about giving only $2500. If you buy foreign and $4500. If you buy from Ford, GM, or Chrysler.

The Top Ten Cash for Clunkers Trade-Ins:
1. 1998 Ford Explorer

2. 1997 Ford Explorer

3. 1996 Ford Explorer

4. 1999 Ford Explorer

5. Jeep Grand Cherokee

6. Jeep Cherokee

7. 1995 Ford Explorer

8. 1994 Ford Explorer

9. 1997 Ford Windstar

10. 1999 Dodge Caravan

The Top Ten Cash for Clunkers New Cars:
1. Ford Focus

2. Honda Civic

3. Toyota Corolla

4. Toyota Prius

5. Ford Escape

6. Toyota Camry

7. Dodge Caliber

8. Hyundai Elantra

9. Honda Fit

10. Chevy Cobalt

why? Foreign car companies still employ lots of american workers...

and OUCH for the exploders! that incredible that they were the most turned in cars!

Doesn't surprise me on the Explorers. They were nice, but they quickly fall apart. Escpecially that model era....96-97-98-99.

How about giving $0 if you buy a foreign vehicle.

That's what I say. Keep it in the Big 3 only.

That's fine by me.. most of them fall apart anyway.

x2.

explorers were the perfect trasde in because they were all running daily drivers worth about $1500 or so. Other newer 4wds are usually worth close to the 4500

The difference in pricing matters in MPG difference too. You go from an 88 Suburban with a 454 and 8MPG to a Cobalt at 22-30MPG, you'll get the most money. You go from a 14MPG Explorer to a 14MPG Hummer, you won't get much.

14 to 14 yopu get zero dollars it has to be a minimum 4MPG difference
4-9 you get 3500
10 or more you get 4500

this is for passenger cars
now trucks are different and there are loopholes to cheat with

Saw that list too. Thought this was to help the big three? I thought Tyota,Honda didn't need any help since they're "building cars people want" :shake:

How do they know your used cars current MPG? Do they go based on what it was brand new, or what? I mean, MPG goes down when cars start to get old and run like shit, so what do they determine?

My girlfriends cousin just turned in an old V8 Caddy and got an HHR. Stickered at 23K, she got a family plan rebate and the clunker money....got the HHR for 13K!!!
