Carbed 4.6, what can I run for an ignition ????

I am planning to finish the stang over the next 3 months, finally :rockwoot:

I have run into one little problem, what am I going to use to control the ignition. I would really like to find a system I can adjust the timing without using a laptop or having a tune done. Anyone know or have any idea what parts it would take to make this at the very least a somewhat easy system for a novice to run ? Any help or advice is appreciated ?????

Thanks Motown !!!!!

this is just about the only thing I know of ?

It should not require a degree in engineering to use but the cars should still hit a dyno to do fuel and spark for best power.

Thanks Sean, I was looking into that. I plan to run the car on e85 for cruising and some VP for track use. I just want something user friendly and making adjustment on my own would have me chewing finger nails LOL. I don't want to be in and out every 2 weeks tuning as it will get costly :dollar:

I'm just wondering if I'll be able to lose the factory cpu, run this and keep all the other systems operable. I plant to run all aftermarket gauges as I'll be using a fiberglass or aluminum dash.

No need to kill the factory PCM. Just unplug all the engine harness stuff, snuff out the bulb and run that box for ignition control.

why are you building a carb motor though ?

You may find this strang but few of the major Modular builder are making more power with the carbed intakes for the 4 valve over fuel injection. My builder told me 500 rwhp with the right combo will be streetable and have the numbers I want for track use. I don't want to give out all the details but it will remain under 310 C.I. and will have the mother of all 4 valve heads. The only option I have for running these heads is this intake, so carbed it is.
I found that MSD makes a system that uses its own pcm to control timing and also includes a MAP sensor and pc adapter, guess I'll be spending some time on the dyno to get it right, LOL.
I'll be looking at August before the block is even finished so I may change the set up.

Thanks,

So you are running the GT High Port heads ? I doubt you'll make more power with a carb. the issue is always the runner length. You can modify the intake manifold for that however.

you could always modify the Single plane or carb intake for EFI fairly cheaply and that would save on buying the ignition box.
