Carb/Ignition Problem?

Car starts and idles well. Under WOT, the car accelerates really well. But when cruising, it feels like its missing. Suspect MSD 6AL, but not sure. Any suggestions?

Misfire?

Plugs are black, so I don't think its too lean. Timing is a good point. I set it up to get 18 deg advance by 3000 rpm, so I might drop that so that I have full advance at cruise speed.

I need to get an O2 sensor on this thing. Anyone in the Mt. Clemens area that can weld a bung on the header?

BTW, its a 750 DP Holley with a Proform main body. No PV in rear.

does it fall on its face or just sound as if its missing. I knwo when i ran my car with no Pv's at cruise the thing sounded like it had a 1" lift cam in it, this is at 3000 rpm. It would almost sound like a miss but when you waked it thing was crisp.

18 degrees total advance? Like thats full advance?

So this is a carbed engine..
Need to put vac gauge on it pull most HG out of it along with rpm while playing with idle mix..then run it with new plugs..
may have had a fouled plug...
After that Then repost
Keep posting we will all read and figure it out!

Gary Kook is up there, Greg Cernie At Great Lakes Customs, Bruce Kimmins over at Top Craft...John Vermerche ToTal Performance ...Lidio over at Extreme...They al can do that header!

I'd definately try to get the timing all in before 2500. I run mine locked at full timing with no problems but it's a stalled auto.. I hope it has more than 18 degrees total also.

A quick dyno session for idle and cruise adjustments could get things running clean after welding up the bung. goodluck

Advance

It has 18 initial + 18 advance = 36 degrees total.
Got it all in by 2500 rpm now. Didn't seem to change the way the car runs.

Thanks for the help guys -- I'm going to try to get this O2 in before weekend, and I'll post up what I find with the readings.

my camino would act like what you described. surge/miss at very light steady state loads. took 2 degrees out and all was good

This P.O.S.!

Getting a little frustrated with this thing. I've rejetted the carb and played with the timing, changed plugs, and the car still feels like its missing. At MSD's recommendation, I attached the ground direct to the battery - no change. I'm 75% sure that this is an ignition problem. It has a brand new MSD dist, so I'm lost. Anyone on the east side have a scope to hook this up to?

Found problem

Turned out to be a combination of a bad ignition coil (thanks MSD!) and a tremendously rich situation relating to idle air bleeds. Car is running much better now. It also seemed to help when I briefly listed the car for sale?!?!

Thanks for all the advice guys!
