I have a 96 neon 2.0 SOHC auto and car runs and drives fine but after 30-45 min of straight driven the car cuts out and wont start till you let it cool down.car never over heats i am stumped and can't scan cause the check engine comes and goes.

Put a fuel pressure tester on it. Duck tape it to windshield and drive around till it shuts off again. If the pressure drops or goes to zero once it dies then you need a fuel pump

Sounds as maybe the injectors are getting heat soaked and resistance is going high when the coiling is breaking down. Will it shut down quicker sitting at an idle with the hood closed? Did it shut down quicker the last two days? Does it take it longer to re-start if you leave the hood down vs open?

When It will not restart check for spark, if you have spark check for fuel psi, if you have fuel psi check the injector drivers with a noid.

If you dont have spark its prob a coil, coil driver or possibly crank trigger issue.

If you have no fuel could be a bad pump, regulator, injector driver or ecm/pcm etc...

If you dont have a noid light to check if the injectors are being triggered and you have already verified spark and fuel pressure hit it with a lil either and if it fires you got a driver issue.

Not sure if a neon has one but I had a little beater saturn that had a map sensor go bad that did the exact same thing
