hey guys, I will be purchasing a new head unit for my boat that will be pushing 4 MTX marine 6.5" 2 ways

my question is, are some head units more powerful than others ? I really dont want to wire an amp as I am keeping this simple. I did see kenwood makes a power pack deal that plugs in to the head unit and boosts the output... ?

This question has Moneypit written all over it....he's the resident pro.

If it were me....i'd use the radio for the signal and wire an amplifier or two. you'll get your best sound quality.

Don't go by what's printed on the faceplate...you want to look at the RMS watts per channel. What is the RMS watts on the speakers?

if its in a boat stored at a marina, go cheap it will get stolen, eclipse is out of the US market just grab a few year old unit from ebay for 20% of its original cost car audio doesnt hold its value worth a shit

if you are going to use a IPOD or the like out there just get a amp and a mini cable to rca jack and run direct from the ipod alot cheaper , and they cant steal what they cant see

The radio with the "power packs" are alpines and you can get them down in the low 100 dollar range and it works on all alpine radios with the black wire harness giving you 45w rms.......decent considering most aftermarket radios produce 18 to 22 watts rms. I sell tons of them and the only real downside is there are no crossovers and they are only 4 ohm stable

i just bought the alpine unit 50 watt max, but it only puts out 17rms, alpine makes an inline amp plug in for it that makes it 45 watts rms and it sounds great with 4 6x9 memphis audio 2 ways on my pontoon. it also has sirius, usb port, pandora and easy to tune IMO
