Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has stopped taking orders for the Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcats so it can work through a lengthy backlog.

Order-taking is expected to resume in August, according to Allpar.com, which reported the news this morning.

FCA US confirmed the suspension but didn’t specify how long it would last.

“Due to unprecedented demand for the 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats,” the company said in a statement, “we are temporarily restricting orders while we validate current orders that are in the system.”

Demand for the pair of 707-hp cars built in Brampton, Ontario, has wildly exceeded company projections, and their limited availability has frustrated dealers and would-be buyers.

Several weeks ago, FCA’s top U.S. spokesman, Gualberto Ranieri, criticized “a handful” of dealers for engaging in “unscrupulous” and potentially illegal behavior by taking orders they may be unable to fulfill.

Dodge dealers have delivered more than 2,200 Hellcats -- some at well above sticker price -- but Dodge brand head Tim Kuniskis told Automotive News last week that the company had received more than 9,000 orders. That’s double the annual sales for which FCA had planned. Dealers started taking orders in September.

Most of Dodge’s 2,300 U.S. dealers were told that they may get no more than one per month, yet some have taken orders for dozens, or even hundreds. Some have asked for nonrefundable deposits of up to $5,000.

Yeah, they are way behind, and by the time they get caught up, they will be at a time of year when the 2016s should be shipping I think.

They just didn't think so many people would want such an impractical car. I ordered mine on November 4th and just finally got it a couple days ago.

FCA is doing this to stop dealer from taking orders on cars that won't every be able to deliver, lots of auto companies suspend ordering FCA made it public to stop the shitty dealers

I was lucky enough to have a vist from one of the Hellcat lead designers today. He came by with a white challenger. Being this was my first ride in this car, I can clearly see why the back log. He explained that the order list they have on this car is 3x what they expected. I can tell you this much, this car for the money is unreal. Stock to stock, it pulls much harder than a GTR which is 30k more. It will out run any stock 14 Shelby without a doubt. With the tuning pontenional and the ability to tune it for E85, I think we will see these cars make north of high 700s. a shop is Florida already made 705 sae corrected with an auto and tune only.

Brampton is having a lot of problems right now, anyone that has one I would pay attention to your oil

Sorry to hear but it's great there is such demand. I hope they don't have problems delivering the scat pack models.

I whooped a pre-prod one easily in my GTR last summer leaving my marina...

I went to order one and they are saying 12 weeks before they can take an order. I hate to op for the RT, so I guess I'll wait......

Very soon im being told.

I heard it would never happen because they wouldn't do a 2WD jeep and 700hp through AWD would break too much/cost to much to make reliable. Awesome if they are!!! The next viper is going to have some shoes to fill with this lineup.

I wonder if you're going to the right dealer? I work at a dealer (not in sales) and they've delivered over 10 hellcats and I believe a few were custom ordered. the scat pack and regular srt are sweet too with an N/A 6.4L
