canoeing in SE Mich?

Are there any places to go canoeing in the SE area of the state? Or NW Ohio? I need a place where they don't mind 30 people being loud and drinking at the campsite and on the river. My friends from school get together on the Rifle River every year but it's a freakin' haul to get up there.

I went somewhat local here in Milford, MI. There was a decent river with a few beach type stops available along the way. I can't remember which place we went to though. But Jello Shots were loaded in the cooler for the trip!

Rifle is the best. But there are other places but nothing is goin to compare!

Bet me.. Grayling..AuSable River is the #1 canoeing river in the state by far none!!
Thats why they have the Canoe Marathon there for the last 100 years!!!

In S/E Mich you can do the Raisin or Huron...

True the Ausable is also great but even futher north. My wife has gone a few times on the Huron but that is alittle different than the other 2.

Never been on the Raisin, but have been on the Huron River... Depending where you go (some shallow spots and areas with trees down) but the last time I went, we went through a case of beer and was being loud and no one seemed to care. Campsites right on the river.

Someone mentioned Milford and that is part of the Huron River.

I liked the Rifle and Ausable but my favorite up north is the Jordan River. Current is a little faster kinda challenging but can do it drunk.

The Rifle is going to be a piss in the mud with the rain we have been having. I like the Muskegon or even farther up to the Manistee.

We went here in Ann Arbor...last year and it was cool...like a 12 mile run...took all day with several stop spots

Did you paddle at all? We usually pick a 3 hour run, and then tie our canoes together into rafts and just float down. It takes about 7 or 8 hours.
