Can anyone ID this snake from my backyard?

I figured it was just a garter snake but it's actually a pretty big one (had to be at least 30" and their spec for adults is 15-27"). I've got some video of it as well. I was going to pick it up and scare the gal but those things can move pretty fast when they want.

That snake will bite the shit out you if you try to handle it. That species is WAY more aggressive than the other variety. That being said, I would also expect a 2-3 foot Butler's snake to bite. A big snake like that will also be stronger than you think and can spin itself like an airplane propeller and then turn and latch on to you. I've handled just about every species of snake that is indigenous to this state other than the rattler. First hand experience here.

Wow that's crazy! Should I have killed the thing or what? Don't want it to kill the gal's 4 lbs dog?

No don't kill it. It will keep critters under control and is no threat to the dog.
It will probably periodically scare the shit out of you when you walk up on it and it takes off from under your feet.

When I mow my lawn I chase them with the lawnmower, they're probably pretty good for keeping the critters down around your house.

The snakes under the edge of my house entertain the dog, that's for sure. She's only caught one snake so far.

Do they hang out in the same places typically or might I never see this thing again?

I have a big one like that in my yard, my dog was trying to take a shit and didn't realize the snake was there, hilarious! It lunged at my dog a couple times, he had to pinch off and finish elsewhere.

I hate snakes lol i have boulders around my whole house down here in Tennessee and ive seen some bigass black snakes(non poisonous) and a few smaller brown ones that im sure if are cotton mouths or just water snakes but those fuckers die when i can get them.
