Camaro Question

My neighbor has a 2000 Camaro convertible, which appears to be an SS. Some guy that is trying to buy it off him claims it isn't a real SS. It is a 6spd car that looks to have all of the SS parts on it and if it was cloned was done right. Does anyone know how to verify that it isn't a converted Z28?

Thanks

There is a 3 letter build code on the build sticker in the glove box, i just forget the code for Camaro SS'.....check LS1Tech.com the info will be there.

For the LS1 cars, GM made the Camaro SS and SLP modified them if additional options were purchased (wheels, exhaust, car cover, etc.). Check the door sticker for RPO code "WU8" and you'll know if it's a real SS.

How old of a car can the dealer run and find out the build info on? I ran a GM that was older than that through that system recently and it was too old to get info on. I had dad run something at a Ford dealer and found out Ford only goes back 10 years with the ability to look up the build info. Dealer might not be any help. But sounds like there are lots of other options here anyway.

The service ID tag in the door should tell you. We bought a 96 or 97 SS Camaro here for parts and it was a real SS. Had SLP stickers in the door along with the GM codes on sticker.

I wish thats what every SS looked like. I'm trying to clone a Dick Harrell car but those wide body fenders aren't going to be cheap
Look up 6litereater on LS1tech. Their website sells widebody stuff once in a while (when they can get enough people to make an order). I've bought other parts from them and never had any problems.
