Calling All Travelers.. Honeymoon Suggestions

I'd suggest rereading JPK's post and taking it to heart. You really need to figure out what type of vacation you're looking for, and narrow down destinations based on that.

Europe is awesome, but there's a lot of history, culture and "attractions" to see that will likely make a good part of your vacation a daily dash to go see & do stuff. I personally love these types of vacations, but you almost need a vacation from your vacation once you get back home. A good compromise in Europe may be Greece - spend a week on the Greek Isles (e.g. Santorini, Rhodes, Mykonos, etc.) hitting the beach and chilling, then spend a few days in Athens seeing things. Could also do a day trip to Turkey, etc. Italy could be a good compromise place too - Amalfi coast, Lake Como, Sienna/Tuscany... but you're going to be greatly tempted to day trip to go see things.

I'd love to hit Australia, NZ and even south Africa, but August is their winter... and I don't think I'd go for any less than 2.5-3 weeks. The flight time and jet lag is not worth only spending 7-9 days there IMO.

The 2016 Olympics are in Rio this August. That could be fun.

It all comes down to what your definition of the perfect honeymoon is....

If you want to go someplace different and cool, go to Iceland. I have a number of friends/colleagues that have been and they have all loved it. Plus, it's someplace no one thinks about so you will always have stories to tell that no one else can top.

I want a mix of relaxation and activity/adventure. I want to be able to paddleboard, hike, snorkle, and things like that. I told him that if we do Europe, I only want to go for like 7-8 days and then go sit on a beach somewhere for like 4 days. My Bora Bora/northern California idea is a mix of the two. We can relax, paddleboard/water sports.. then northern California can be our sight seeing/active stuff. We can go to Napa, San Francisco, Yosemite, etc.
Neither of us want to do Bora Bora for more than a week. People said it can start to get pretty boring after a few days.
