Caffeine Withdrawals

Here is what I have done (twice) to ween myself off of caffeine. Cold turkey is not the answer. The headaches for two weeks were too much.

Buy a bottle of regular Excedrin. On the first day, take two tablets. If you feel a headache coming on, take 1 more table. Take 2 tablets a day for the next six days. Use an additional tablet if needed during this time to lessen the headaches, but try not to, if you can.

The second week, cut down to one tablet a day. This should get you through the withdrawal process.

The key is not drinking ANYTHING with caffeine. Also, no chocolate.

I have not had headaches or migraines since I have been off of caffeine. Best of luck.

I am quitting because it is unhealthy and not good for me. I typically have one redbull a day (right when I go into work) and maybe 2 pops a shift. I work midnights and everyone at work is telling me I can't do it, that you need caffeine to keep going lol. I can't ween myself off of it either, if I don't give up cold turkey, I'll just keep on drinking pop and coffee. I took some aspirin last night at work and it didn't touch the headache. I guess I am just going to be a grumpy co-worker for a few days

Try switching when you drink soda to make it become a want than a need. For example, drink soda prior to work while relaxing and kicking back. Then when you get to work, stay with water or 100% unsweetened juice or V8 juice. Careful with the V8 and 100% unsweetened juices, they can cause terrible acid reflux. Eventually, you will just drink soda to just want it and not rely on it. From there, you can choose to keep it in your diet or abandon it all the way.

I like a good not cheap Cola. Cheap soda I will waste or not drink at all. Sprite and 7 up sucks, it's good once in a while but not as a daily soda.

I started getting suckered into drinking the "classic" sodas made with cane sugar because they had the good taste I remembered from Coke/Fanta overseas. I always thought the High Fructose Corn Syrup ones had a weird aftertaste here. Every now and then I'll pick one up though. My daily drinks I can't get enough of are Coffee, Iced Tea (unsweetened), Hot Teas (with honey) and water though.

I drink 2 20oz Pepsis a day. When I was in college I would drink 5-6 20oz Pepsi or Cokes a day. My wife (gf at time) is a health nut and tried to get me to kick it. I was actually free and clear until I started this new damn job. I have to be up at like 4:45am. It's not that I don't get proper rest, its something about waking up when its dark out that makes me groggy. What helped me though was swapping out 1/2 of what I drank with caffeine free Coke or Pepsi. That cut me down to 2-3 regular pepsis a day and once I was down to that I would start start drinking a flavored water instead of 1 or 2 of my pepsis. After I was down to 1 or 2 I figured screw it and just quit completely. I started drinking a lot of gatoraide. The caffeine free sodas play games with your body. You drink it and think you are drinking a normal pop but you aren't getting the caffeen your body is craving. I couldn't do it cold turkey but caffeine free pops really helped.

When I've been off caffiene and caught the headaches. Two Aleves have knocked the pain right out. Magic stuff = Aleves

NO headache last night at work, now on day 3! I do feel a little more lethargic, but I am also fighting a cold right now. I think the hardest part is going to be not having any jager barrels, or jager bombs when out with friends

I'm pretty much over drinking pop. The only time I really have one is if it's mixed with alcohol. Sometimes I have one at lunch but mostly just for the ice to chew on.
