CAD classes/lessons..

Anyone know anyplace that teaches CAD? I was going to go to MCC and take some classes, but they dont start until January...and its 16 week classes:bs: They were 8 week classes during the summer, but I couldnt get in.

If anyone know a place that wont cost a fortune, let me know.

My buddy took a catia class some where at 10 and Vandyke. I'm sure they offer other system, and they also give you a break on the price if your unemployed. I'll try and call him to find out more details

Community College is probably the cheapest option. You might be able to find a 1 week class at one of the training facilities but it won't be as cheap as MCC will be. Rand and Incat are the two that are on the top of my head.

If you don't know which CAD system you want to learn, I'll suggest you look into Catia V5. Ford, Chrysler, BMW, and Toyota all use V5 and require their suppliers to use it as well so there are plenty of jobs here in Michigan. I've used Pro/Engineer, I-Deas, and Catia V5 and I like Catia the best.

Mmmmmm, CAD. I love CAD, I took like 3 years in Highschool. I still keep a program on my laptop.

Like they said, community colleges are the best way to go.

i agree catia is the way to go. i would check out occ to see what they have.

I'm currently taking Unigraphics at OCC in Auburn Hills. It's a 15 week class, and the cost was something like $350. They also offer CATIA. They may have a 7/8 week class starting, but it would be starting within a week or so. Check out their website for class schedules.

Every Catia V5 job I've looked into they want 1-2 years experience with the software at a minimum and want you to hit the ground running. And it may be hard to get into the business without any degree. Matter of fact most even want a BSME to be a CAD designer. Its worth a try though. And even the shittiest paying CAD jobs pay decent.

Very true. My department (Body CAD) won't hire without at least a BSME although we do all of our own Catia training.

Solidworks hasn't been mentioned??? What are you looking to do as your final goal? A CAM programmer usually gets paid 65/hr or so. Something to think about? Catia / Pro/E / Solidworks are all pretty compatible with CAM systems (basically anything that exports to a .IGS /.IGES

I am looking to learn CAD as a step to programming cnc machines. We use autoCad r14 at work, that is what I will be using. Most likely I will end up at MCC, but I was hoping to get started before January. After using my brain for a second, I realize January nis probably a good time to start with the daughter due any day now.

Thanks for the tips/advice.

OTC...(Oakland Tech Center) On Big Lake Rd in Clarkston has all different kinda of CAD class' i WAS going to take it this year for one of my Highschool class' but they wouldn't let me join OTC again for some things that had happend back in my freshmen year.

Man that's an old version of Acad. I think I have a copy of R14 laying around if you need one.
