c4 mustang issues

So the c4 (which was "rebuilt") in my 69 broke the front pump snout clean off. I thought I may have not installed it properly and bought a new one today. When I fully seated the torque converter, it will not budge, in gear, in park, in neutral. Is it the new front pump, or does it sound like the torque converter?

Do you have a flexplate or converter problem ? Can;t say as I have ever seen a stator support just snap off like that. Might want to get the transmission and converter checked out. ASAP.

ok, took the bellhousing bolts back out, and the input shaft and tc spin properly. Seems that something is not shimmed right, or ???????

The question remains. Would cuase the stator support to break. fialures like this are rather uncoomon in my experience. Somthing cuase that support to break and the question has yet to be anserwed. I would seriously consider getting the converter looked at ASAP as well as the flexplate and the transmission. Could be a bent input shaft, could be a balloned or imbalanced converter could be a distorted flexplate.

this didn't just happen.

or...the pump was pre broken and I missed it when I installed the trans the 1st time, or...the stator was locked up when I installed the trans the 1st time and I missed it them. Everything is new, trans, tc, fly wheel and motor

possbily. but is it the right converter for the bellhousing? if it wasnt locked in all the way then it would be hard to bolt the trans to the motor cause it would bind on the converter.

the only things I have seen cuase stator fialures are out of balance converters or converters with bents hubs.. If you have the wrong bellhousing and converter combo I do not belive you would be able to put the thing together without it being a hard bind.

Something is wrong. Time to stop reassembling the car and start investigating the parts. there is no way the stator should be locked up unless something was jamming the turbine and pump inside the converter together.

with the bolts not torqued down, everything spins freely. Only when the front pump is torqued down does it bind. I am thinking that something is not shimmed properly behind the pump. I really need a good trans mechanic, and or a good c4 site.
I checked a blow up of a c4 and nothing looks to be missing from behind the front pump.

this could be true. there are washers behind the front pump and you can also pull the hub assembly apart. best thing to do is have somebody go through it. i have done it myself many times its not hard just get a haynes manual and it will show youhow to do it. ive never had my trans not work. i used to break them every week but it was hard parts not from assembling it wrong. id break input shafts, drums, planetaries.

check to make sure the drums and clutchs are seated properly. Most likely culprit is a clutch is not mated up correctly making the drum stand off the mounting hub cuasing your bind.

Something is not right with the broken stator however.
