buying a boat

i've been considering buying a boat for 2-3k i've seen some on craigslist that look pretty nice for that price now what what are things that you want to look for / ask when looking at boats as iv never boat one before just been on a few. and i know that with that price range theres things to look for just like a car thats 2k
 
umm...it depends on what kind of boat you want. Fishing boat, speed boat. Mainly as long as it floats your good...
 
I would get the first one. I like a cuddy cabin over a bow rider anyday. only down side its a 4 banger..(V8 swap??)
 
sorry man i just solid my cherry seaking 16 ft with a chrysler 45 outboard for 300 bucks with trailer i had a add up but no one wanted it. a guy came across from st Clair commented on how much im getting ripped off and bought it. but any who gl finding one!
 
look up hideaway harbor in harrison township in the phone book and ask for michael carter. he can find you a boat for that price range for sure ! hes a great guy and has a good selection of affordable boats

in my opinion if your just looking for a decent run-a-bout boat go with the Four Winns horison series. im looking for a ski boat as we speak and i see them up for sale alot. 190's (19'0) are pretty good boats. they cost a little more than a bottom liner or some other cheap boat but thier worth it. also don't be afraid to spend a little more. boats don't lose their value as fast as cars do. odds are you'll be able to break even or come close if you sell it within a couple years.

best bet would be to wait for the boat show next month and go see all the different kinds of boats. then make your decision on what type you want to buy.
 
Make sure anything you're looking at has been properly winterized.

Also theres no way to guarantee it won't sink until you get it out in the spring, one reason its bad to buy a boat in the winter.
 
I wouldn't go under 23' for a boat on St. Clair, that lake can get pretty rough on the weekends with all the drunk boaters out there.

those 2 you're looking at are too small...

It's all relative. We cross the entire lake on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon on 8' boats all the time ;) He might not have enough space for a bigger boat. He'll just have to watch the weather, if it starts to get bad you don't wanna be out there on a smaller boat.
 
Two best days in a boat owners life.

1st-the day he buys it.

2nd-the day he sells it.

It was my Dad's theory. He had the same one about wives. He had a couple boats and wives. :roll:

That or the outboard pushes thru the transom first time you try to pull someone skiing....


yeah true story, happended to a friend who though he knew everything about boats but never owned or worked on one in his life.

if your not able to dock it on the lake all the time i could see it being a hassle. but it can make a camping trip up north 1000 times better.
