Bubba the dog - help needed.

Alright so i have had to take in a 80 pound American pit bull. I have been really struggling time wise to take the best care of him. This was supposed to be short term but now it's over a month and some. I have had to come out of pocket over 300 dollars now for food and toys but i think he is depressed because i can't play with him or tend to him everyday.
He dosen't eat like normal and he tosses his bowl every time i put food in it. I don't think he is sick physically but i think mentally the situation is not good for him. At this point i think recovering money i spent is not a factor. But it would be nice if someone offered a fair price for him.

On top of that he needs a check-up just as routine (i have no medical history on him). And i'm sure that will cost another 300 bucks....but it's not something i can provide at this time. I need someone that can take good care of him.

He is a good dog, energetic and suited for situations where he will be in constant contact with people. He is a good watch dog but does not show aggression toward people, except for strangers with brooms....odd i know. He has stayed outdoors while in my care but i believe he originally was a house dog.

I don't wish to give him to the humane society because they will put him down, i don't want to post him for sale because he could be sold to assholes who would make him fight...though he is not aggressive. Or simply mistreat him. He seems to do ok with other dogs.

If you can take him in, let me know. I'm not charging anything for him, but i decide who he goes to in the end. If you wish to still offer a fair price for him that is fine also

Damn tough situation :(

You are right about the Humane Society and about posting him for sale.
Try the forums at www.pitbullforum.com - plenty of good people there, some are local and may be able to help.

Good Luck :(

I wish I could take him in for you, but my pit bull is questionable with other dogs and until I get my fence up I can't even consider taking on another dog even to foster short term :(

I'm glad you are being cautious about where he is going to end up. How did you get him?

I am a member at www.pitbullforum.com also. They are going to want to know how you came about having him, because they frown on owner surrenders....just a heads up.

Is he neutered?

If you wanted to have him checked medical an office visit should be under $50. It is the vaccines and everything else that gets you. I can't seem to walk out of the vets office for under $200

I'll try and check into the rescues I am familiar with and see if maybe someone has a place for him.

Is there any way you could keep him inside?

How is he with other dogs? I will talk to my Family tonight. I already have a small Pitbull but I was looking at getting another dog since I moved into a house with a fenced in yard.

As far as other dogs go, in the current situations there is a dog on every fence in my backyard and he gets along with all of them including another pit bull. We had them together for a limited amount of time (both boys) but didn't let them off the leash....no nipping or anything.

He is really affectionate, with a little bit of a jumping problem. I trained him not to jump on me but he still likes to do it to strangers. He can be hyper but it's short lived....he usually runs out of gas in about 10 min of playing and running around in the back yard. I never had him close around kids but he does not show aggression toward my neighbors kids when there playing in there back yard

And yeah...he's not neutered and probably needs a full checkup since i have no med history on him.

The kicker is that i am allergic to dogs in the worst way, thats why i don't keep him inside. I wear gloves to pet him lol

He sounds like a great dog!

How did you end up with him?

Do you know how old he is?

a year and some, no exact age known.
A friend of friend needed a place for the dog because the place were they moved does not allow dogs. So, i took him in

There are a few no-kill shelters around if your not having any luck with the other options. He's a good looking pit though! I like the markings.

I'll find the names of them and get back with you.

if hes 80 lb hes not a full apbt. true apbts are 18-22in tall and only 30-60lbs in weight.

At this point their is a huge range of heights and weights that are pit bulls. Just because he is not breed standard doesn't mean he isn't a full or true APBT. Just probably a product of back yard breeders who don't breed for the standard.
