When you're streaming from netflix does it upconvert?

I am not sure of the basic quality of normal movies, however I do know netflix is offering HD tv shows and movies which is really cool, you might be able to search for the exact answer for the up convert questions, but partners streams his movies on his HD 1080p LCD screen and it looks as good as a normal DVD.
