Bowlers, help please...

I go every once in a while and am looking to pick up a ball of my own. A good game is 180 and a crap game is 100. Where should I get a ball from? What is everyone's preference? What should I not buy? What should I expect to pay?
 
This is gonna sound a lil wierd, But join a have a ball league. it will be like $15 a week for 3 games of bowling, maybe a few pots or 50/50's and then at the end you get to pick out a new ball. Most decent bowling houses have pro shops. Alot of people win balls in tournys and sell them on cl. In order to pick out a ball that is appropriate you might want a pro shop guy to watch you throw a few balls. There is a pro or 2 on motown I think... They will prolly chime in and tell you Im completely wrong, lol.
 
If you're willing to travel to Taylor, i can get you hooked up with a buddy who runs/owns a pro shop. He can watch you throw a few balls and make a recomendation. He got me a decent bal for a good price, since i don't bowl alot i didn't want to spend a ton, but wanted a ball that worked for my style. Also looking at used balls isn't a bad idea eiher, they can be drilled twice, and most avid bowlers buy a new ball every year, and you can get them half priced.

Throw fast? Lots of curve? Straight ball? Lefty or right?

Talk to a pro as suggested. I found a ball on-line and had the local pro drill it at the alley. He watched me throw a few and then drilled the ball accordingly.
 
Use any ball you want. Just remember it's like shaking hands with a guy at the end of the lane.

I prefer Storm equipment. I'm 190 average on my league. I bowl 3 games a week, that's it. I never practice. I've had my fair share of 700's, 290's, 279's. I've had 16 and 18 strikes in a row between 2 games. I also bowled 300 in practice. Overall, their equipment is consistent and lasts a while. I've had a couple Hammer balls and it seems they die pretty quick. My Dad is around 220 and he also prefers Storm.

Storms rule because each different ball model has its own scent... Hahaha one of mine is plum spice I think.. Older Storm Fear Factor.

Love it when people use the term equipment in reference to their balls... :)
 
I think the ball isnt as much the factor as the style match to how you bowl. Some will feel better to you and over time you will find which one fits you best.

I like my Storm the best. Mine is chocolate, smells like tootsie rolls
 
i like storm also. had some roto grips and they would die fast. i probably have 200-300 games on my virtual evergy. love that ball

Ill give you one of my old balls and you can just get it redrilled to suit your needs...

I'm here monday-friday 8am-6pm and Sat 8am-5pm... At the 8 mile store... If you want to pick it up from the livernois store I can have it over there also...
