bought a 2001 P71 Crown Victoria as a beater for my son to drive at school .... what a fucking RIOT to drive

now the stupid question... how do I slow the dam thing down so he doesn't get a bunch of speeding tickets?

It'll do 140mph. :) Just explain to him that you will not be bailing him out of jail, that worked for me when my first car was an IROCZ.

Had the same issue when we updated the cab fleet at the company I worked for down in Florida back in 2009. We got rid of a ton of 300k mile + crown vics with newer retired Texas police units. Within the first week of replacement 4 of them were wrecked in single car spinouts iduring the usual afternoon rain.

Lookup the iat resisotr values online, we ended up using something like a 97k resistor in place of the iat sensor which helped pull some of the timing back which helped with the spinout problem.

Put a recorder on it (type that plugs into the ALDL connector). They are somewhat inexpensive. They even offer tracking services so you can always know where hes at....speed hes driving, how hard he accelerates or brakes....and either don't tell him it there or tell him its there. Lots you can do with one.

My first car (legally when I had a license) was a '77 Firebird Formula. Granted it wasn't the fastest thing on four wheels, but I was 16, smoked the tires off of it, jumped the Dequindre/Parkdale jump that used to be there up until the 90's, blew the engine, then replaced the 350 with a 455 under the radar as far as my parents were concerned ;) lol

We all know how we treated our first cars. And the stupid shit we tried to get away with. Yeah.. now that I think about it, maybe you should err on the safe side and monitor and or slow it down lmao

X2

Monitor it, dont tell him it is on there. As soon as you know that he is revving the piss out of it or speeding, just tell him the exact time/speed of the incident and watch the look of shock set in. He will slow it down.

I know someone who just monitors his daughters cell phone and watches the GPS/speed and calls her when she is doing 5 MPH or more over. Its pretty funny each time

Take it to an empty parking lot. Show him how to handle rwd in the winter. Let him have some supervised fun, they will figure it out one way or the other. Might as well be with guidance

Very few CVPI came with TC. The TC works great on these
cars! I don't know if there is a fairly simply way to add it, but
would if I could.

These are one of the very best "first cars" a young driver could
possibly have. They are very safe & command respect on the road.

The CVPI will also have every cop on the road watching your kid -
remind him of this fact. I find this a good thing.

I have owned many of these cars (& will own many more).
A very good choice of a first time car, excellent job dad.

my brother the retired cop drove it and says ..
this one has been played with ...the cats are gone and it has flow masters I dont know what else has been done to it

I guess I'll just tell him (with great power comes great responsibility )
and if he gets any speeding tickets he will have to get his own Insurance policy

It's funny how there are SOOO many laws in our country and nobody really teaches children what these laws are...

but... remind him that if he impersonates an officer, he will probably go to prison. Do not flash your lights...do not buy a little flashing light for the roof, etc... That movie, "Lets be cops", will probably not work the same way for him and his friends.

I have always highly recommended the CVPI as a
great 2nd car, "winter beater", cheap transportation,
or a kids first car.

Dollar for dollar, it is simply the most car you can buy
for the money.

A few of mine :

That all black with the black steel wheels looks killer.

That was a guy who had an old MSP blue CV, he dropped in a 32V and T56. Sweet combo if you are modding it.

If you're referring to the one with the black push-bar, I had that one for
a few years, great car. That photo was taken in Florida. We drove about
halfway across the state with two FHP units (@ 90 - 95MPH)!

i was driving it saturday night ... down 275 I had my signal on trying to get over to get off at ford road and no one would let me in ... so I punched it ... the damn thing shifted out of passing gear at 90 needless to say I got over and made the exit

Just took my wife's grandmother to a doctor's appointment in her 2002 Grand Marquis. Sorry, I don't get the hype.
