bottle empty already? wtf?

so i have a 10 lb bottle running a 50 shot on my 99 regal. just hooked it up this week. first i didnt have the proper jets, so i just hooked it all up with a full bottle (got it filled at street legal, they said it was 10lbs exactly and 1000psi)

so, the kit i got on craigslist had a purge solenoid off of the super pro shot solenoid. once it was all hooked up, i tested everything out and purged a few times to make sure everything was working. yeah i purged a couple times to show my friends, and it looked cool, call me a ricer but it was funny on a 4 door family sedan lol.

got the right jets (.035 n2o and .018 fuel) running on my fogger nozzle. sprayed once or twice on the highway, just through 2nd gear and into 3rd, maybe 2-3 pulls to scan everything and make sure it was legit, and when i got back, just for fun, purged, and it was clear

i can still spray, and itll pick up a little bit, but my clear purge tells me that im not spraying liquid nitrous anymore, and im just spraying gas

i dont care about the purge really, but now that the bottle i pulled out of the car (after a few more pulls with the nitrous the next night) i really feel like the bottle is empty of liquid nitrous, but it just still has some pressure in it.

thing that concerns me is that it was this way after my first 2 or so pulls

so whats up? why is the bottle empty so soon? something i did wrong? does a few scarce purges really spend a whole bottle in a matter of days? i thought with a 50 shot a 10lb would last me a few weeks of intermittant use on the street.

bottle heater? i dont have a pressure gauge yet (yeah, i know...) but im trying to figure out if it sounds like my bottle is spent already, or what, and why so fast? i sprayed like 2 times before my purge was clear, and when i turned the bottle off and purged the leftover nitrous out of the mainline, it didnt take NEARLY as long to drain

know its a long detailed dissertation, but id really appreciate the help

thanks!

10 lbs doesnt last long. A few "show off" purges and a few runs will empty a tank.
You either used it all, or it is leaking. Leaks are easy to spot, check the bottle, lines and nozzles with the bottle open and up to pressure.

Depending on how much you showed off with the purging I'm guessing is what killed the bottle. Or you have a leak somewhere.

you wont get all 10lbs worth either, you might get 6-7 lbs of use in a 10lbs bottle. you will probably use .5-1lbs per pass after purging it so do the math...

lol....i ran my FULL 10lb bottle out after not even 2 passes. 1 full pass and then i ran out halfway down the track the 2nd pass. I was shooting a lot more then 50hp though.

I've had some solenoids stick a little bit if they had sat for a while, also if you have any minor leaks and leave your bottle open overnight say BYE BYE!

well the more i think about it. u got a .035" nozzle when i spray. then my purge uses probably 3/16" brake line which is .1875.

compare the area of those nozzles... pi*r^2...

area of my .035 jet is .000961 sq in.

3/16" brake line is like a .027597 sq in jet

so my jet for spray has 3.4% of the area of my purge line... holy shit

so at that rate, to be on the conservative side... say spray uses 5% of the nitrous that my purge uses, thats 1/20th as much!

so that means every 1sec of purge is like 20 seconds of spray, maybe more?

this is just a late night 2am quick math scenario, thermodynamics excluded

but lets say i purged a total of 12 seconds or something like that, never know, thats like 2.5 mins of spray, and if i only spray after 1st, thats like 25+ passes...

just an idea. no leaks found, but i was perhaps a little purge happy.... ill keep up on this tank and see how my usage compares with no purge :banghead:

thanks!

also remember.
a 50 shot in a 14 second car will use more n20 during a pass than a 50 shot in a 10 second car

I know we spoke on woodward but you really should have a bottle heater and a gauge on it. The gauge is cheap and keeps you informed of whats going on. Spend the money and get it.

the place that filled the bottle, there bottle was low and they were trying to get all they could from it had the same problem before made two quarter mile passes on a 75 shot and then it slowed way down took bottle out opened valve and it was clear
