BOSTON BOMBING - The FBI is asking the general public to help identify these guys...

The Inquisition wasnt the bloodbath many like to believe. For those murdered or executed, the total is somewhere right around 3,000...equal to the World Trade Center. Newly encountered diseases are what wiped out most of the Aboriginals. For what its worth, people executed for witchcraft in Europe during the same period number more than 50,000.

Baloney. People kill people. Not guns and not religions.
What's their defense? That their dead pedophile rapist murdering prophet of a pagan moon God named Allah will be happy if they mow down unarmed civilians?
That's laughable. These are evil people doing evil deeds.

You just made my point.

So the magnitude of the fundamentalist Christian atrocity didn't kill enough people, so it doesn't count? In the 1480's Spain's population was about 5,000,000 so 3000 religious murders equates to 0.06% of the national population. Adjusted to 2010 numbers, that's almost 28,000 people... does that now count? Putting into terms of the US population, that's 185,000 people. Would that be enough to count? That's about the population of Grand Rapids.. wipe that city off the map because their imaginary friend is not the same one you have (I like that reference BTW)..

I'm just confused by your comments. Christian oriented governments were responsible for the witch hunts too. I can't tell if we agree or don't agree.

We do agree...sorry for being a little vague in my reply . I was just throwing some numbers out.

I never understand why people bring up shit like the Spanish Inquisition. What the fuck could I possibly care about religious atrocities committed hundreds of years ago?

I'm concerned with what people are actually doing now, because, uh, I'm alive now. The extent of Christians annoying me in my daily life is the old black ladies that kept showing up trying to get us to read their pamphlets. When they successfully bring down skyscrapers or blow up planes or shred 8 year olds with nail bombs at public celebrations, I'll turn more attention to them.

It wasnt so much religious atrocities as it was a conquest for riches and resources. In North America, the transition to Christianity was rather peaceful, while in Central and South America, Natives were converted due to their then barbaric lifestyles. Incas, Mazatecs, Aztecs, and Mayans all practiced human sacrifice and other things most of us would consider grotesque. The standard European means of execution at that time was hanging or beheading, rather easy compared to the methods across the pond. Cutting the heart out of a living human, feeding his flesh to your family, and wearing his skin to show that you conquered him was standard then. Other means of bloodletting were also common, such as self mutilation, sacrificing of children, genital mutilation, etc. That sort of thing still happens in the very remote tribes who want nothing to do with the modern world. Pretty damn grotesque, but I can see where the Spanish were coming from .

My only point was to illustrate that fundamentalist extremism is not new. But I see your point, when I take a look around the globe, there is only one single- religion movement currently practicing their fundamentalist agenda on a large international scale.

I'm also going to recognize that not all those that follow one religion are practicing the fundamentalist philosophy, and it's something others should keep in mind as well. Failure to do so would compare to dismissing all of Christianity because of the fundamentalist KKK movement........ which is still alive today.

It's still important to learn from history. Incredibly terrible things were done in the name of the church during the inquisition, the witch trials, etc. Even today, the Catholic church has clearly made it obvious that they consider themselves above the law with the way they've handled the child abuse cases.

Definitely not saying that I think we have to worry about the modern Christian based faith murdering people......but at the very least I think all faiths should be tolerant of each other. Intolerance is what breeds violence, and from what I understand, the majority of Muslims do not in any way condone the actions of terrorists.

I found this pic on facebook....since I was born and raised as a Christian, I have no idea if it's true...but I wonder if it is?

Yet you don't see them standing up in protest against these monsters. You see thousands and thousands standing up against the Westboro fucks. Every time they do something stupid, you see people protesting them. Why do you not see demonstrations against these radical Muslims? I'm in no way saying all Muslims are the same, but it's like they turn a blind eye to the ones that are.

I'm Catholic and I HATE they way they've treated the priests that commit sex crimes. It's part of the reason I've pulled away from the church. I have total respect or the nuns and sisters (yes, they are different). They have devoted their lives to their faith. You don't hear of them committing sex crimes like the priests have. Maybe it's because women that become nuns or sisters have a stronger faith or they can just resist temptations better, I don't know. I know plenty of people that have scaled back their donations to the church and have instead passed it along to groups like Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

There is no easy answer, but hate in the name of religion is not being religious.

I get what you're saying but does ANYONE not know that Christians went around murdering and plundering throughout their history? I mean, it's not really new information. The difference to me is, when they were running buckwild killing people left and right in the name of God, alot of people still thought the earth was flat, we drained people's blood when they were sick, people died constantly from what we considered the tiniest of illnesses, and in general, the world as a whole was a completely ignorant, backwards, and unsophisticated place. Now we get people that have college educations, drive fancy cars, know what a plane is, have seen modern hospitals save people from all manner of disease with the miracles of modern medicine, and have experienced the incredible power of the information age and internet cutting off people's heads in the name of God because they are upset that broads show too much ankle.

Many Muslims around the world have shown a laughably incongruous adherence to religion and daily modern life. Like our bomber buddies: I'm gonna be on welfare, smoke pot, fuck chicks, wear Gucci, listen to rap, and oh by the way I'm going to eviscerate small children with nail bombs after repeatedly throwing tantrums at the Mosque because people aren't strict enough adherents to the tenets of my religion. There isn't much to learn there in my opinion. Christianity and Judaism have pretty much totally assimilated into modern society. You won't find too many of either of those groups adhering to literal interpretations of their bibles at this point. And those that do are basically ostracized from polite society. Christianity gets pissed on each and every single day in this country (quite literally at times) and people shrug their shoulders, or turn the other cheek if you will, and go on with their lives. Jews have it even worse. They get fuckin blamed for everything. The only fear I have of dealing with Jews is being on the wrong side of a deal.

That pic is bullshit. I know I've blathered on about this before but when I lived in London I knew Saudis, Syrians, and people from other Gulf States that all thought Osama Bin Laden or Saddam Hussein was a great guy because he was fucking with America (and this was 15-20 years ago). Same shit. Fast cars, expensive clothes, every weekend at the club. Think it's amusing when Islamic nutbags exact revenge globally for slights to your little book. Of course, all these people subsequently come to the US to go to east coast colleges. Find me some upper crust Christian Americans that think "Yeah, it's awesome that those random African Christians participate in bloody genocidal civil wars with those African Muslims" on the basis of some type of religious brotherly love. Unlikely on the whole I'd say. The temptation, especially for liberals, is to say "oh well you're a white anglo saxon and of course you think the 'other' is evil." I'm not a religious person. I can count the number of times I've been in church on one hand, and I've never been a participant, so I just assess based on what is obvious.

My personal challenge to people that think that the Islamic fundamentalism problem is wildly overstated or that it's a tiny subset of the overall Muslim population is this:

Look at the list of largest Muslim populations by country. How many of those countries would you feel comfortable walking around in jeans and a t-shirt wearing a nike hat if you were a white guy, or a Jew?

It's not like you're a guaranteed murder victim in most of them, but you'd definitely think twice about many of them. Anybody up for a road trip to Pakistan? There's about 180,000,000 Muslims there. How many of them would you start sweating if they were eyeballing you. A lot more than the handful of Westboro Nuts, right? Look at a place like Egypt. 80,000,000 Muslims over whom liberals can't stop fawning because of their cell phone uprising, white broad from CNN wanders into the crowd, gets her clothes torn of and fingered/sodomized by 50 different people for being an infidel. Shit is what it is.

Since 1993, "In the U.S., violence directed towards abortion providers has killed at least eight people, including four doctors, two clinic employees, a security guard, and a clinic escort.[8][9]"

Man, it's as if NOBODY is safe from the terror of fundamentalist Christian violence!

In bold is exactly what many, many in this country are furious about.

I think they dont stand up due to safety reasons. I know some Muslims who refuse to go back to their native countries because they would now be singled out for being Americanized, theyre infidels like the rest of us. The difference here is we dont bomb, maim, or murder those who dont agree with us. We just politely say "fuck you" and go about our life. Maybe they should start doing the same

Of all wars documented in history only less than 7%
were religious in basis. That means 93% were NOT!
Do your research & look it up.

While that may be true in the last couple of hundred years, historically speaking, religion has played a major part in most wars of centuries past. French Revolution? Religion. Crusades? Religion. Reconquista? Religion. 30 years War? Religion. Conquest of Constantinople? Religion. While those are a drop in the bucket when accounting for all wars, they were history changing events. Unfortunately, a conquered people usually has to conform to the standards of the conquering country or group of people. That is how territory is lost and won during war. If that wasnt true, most of the religious people today would still be polytheistic like their ancestors thousands of years ago. Maybe religion doesnt play a direct role, but it does indeed play a role. Anytime a person forcefully makes somebody conform to something, it then plays a role.
