I'm glad that they caught the second guy alive, but to daveg's point, I hope they get a full confession, broader understanding of the situation, and confirm they have the right guy (and that only those 2 were involved). There's been so much false reporting on this story since Monday, most of the "facts" you guys are attacking daveg with are nothing but speculation and hearsay. From CNN reporting that a black dude was in custody 2 days ago, to both being Muslim extremist from Chechnya, to tonight with most of the news channels reporting that only the suspect was firing at police from the boat - only for the police to later confirm that was false.
I'm not defending the guy, but many of you guys seem to be taking whatever the media reports as being fact... and many times, they are very wrong.

He was stripped naked by the cops becau se they thought he might have explosives on him.
They also caught some senior citizen and a police robot took off his jacket while he was lying on the ground.

Thanks. I should have stated my point differently. I just felt the rush to execute this individual without trial was out of line. I would assume these two did not act alone and all parties responsible should be put to justice. There is overwhelming evidence these guys performed the act, and justice will prevail. Hopefully it will be justice for all parties involved.

Of course they should. But as I've stated before many times on here, this is not possible as long as true followers of Islam are among us. I'm not talking about Westernized, modernized Muslims. I'm talking about the serious ones who make up the vast majority of the Islamic world around the globe. And, it is not because I don't want to peacefully co-exist, it is because their definition of "peaceful co-existence" is you and I being submitted to them under Sharia, whether that be willingly by us, or by threat of the sword. That is their definition of peace, which is really no peace at all.
And the point is this - most liberals who put that sticker on their car refuse to acknowledge the truth of what I just said. In fact, most of them would vehemently argue against that truth with some pie-in-the-sky, "Islam is really a religion of peace," rubbish.

I'm not sure if what you just said is true or not. I'm guessing you are saying that based on verbiage in their Koran? If so, I'm sure you're also very aware that certain verbiage in the Bible can also sound crazy when taken literally, correct?
I personally like that sticker, and I wish more religious leaders and teachers in all faiths (like yourself) would subscribe to the ideal of peacefully co-existing.
It's difficult for me to think of a dumber reason to murder each other than over religion.

Now .. regarding the "co exist" bumper stickers. Sure - let's all get along. Why not? Well, that only works for people who are capable of getting along. Someone who wants to kill you because they are full of hate is not someone that needs to be gotten along with. It's someone who needs to be destroyed.
Now, if we wanted to be deeper we could say that the implication of the sticker is that all sets of beliefs are equal is logically false given that truth can't be both true and false in the same context. :cheers:

The religions have more in common than a fundamentalist would care to admit.
I think what people confuse is that while Christianity is not clean on any of this (read up on the Spanish Inquisition ), the Fundamentalist Islamic movement is growing, while the Fundamentalist Christian movement is relatively non-existant these days nor is it rampantly violent.
Nearly any widely practised religion has a history of their jihad equivalent....
