Bored/Stroked HEMI....in a station wagon

We put my good buddy's "QWKWAGN" under the knife a couple of weeks ago after being down all season. A few stock ring-lands let go due to improper tuning/poor piston design, oh....and the blower that was on it.

At any rate, a shop down in TX did the engine assembly and built a pretty impressive engine. A brief rundown of the big stuff is:

-Bored/Stroked 5.7L block
-Custom CP Pistons (laser-etched :eek5:)
-Carrillo tapered Rods
-Big cam
-Ported/Polished heads
-Big valves
-6.1L Intake

Here are a ton of pics from the install:

Super badass! I admire your friend and the path he is taking. Always liked the "superwagon" idea. Keep us posted!:rockwoot:

Thanks for the replies, fellas. :rockwoot:

Dline, it's at 372 cubes now. I think you know of this car and my buddy, the owner. Unless I have you mixed up with someone else.

Why in gods name would you waste money to laser etch the top of the pistons. Does he know that sharp edges cause hot spots and lead to dentionation? I cannot believe a piston manufactuer would even offer such non-sense

I think the guy who builds the engines likes to etch the pistons

weird...

I spent 6 hours with some wet paper rolling the edges on the valve pockets and tops of my pistons. I wouldn't let someone pay me to put scratches(laser etching) in the tops of them lol

Sweet ride, it should move out nice when its done.

But one question - Why in gods name would you lift the short block by the top of a stud? Its kinda like trying to lift up a fat girl who fell on the ground with her hair. Not a good idea.

:icon_lol: Excellent analogy.

Those were the old head-bolts....and then the machined "brackets." They were used to pull the old motor out and were also used to put the new motor in without any issue. Maybe it was luck? At any rate, thanks for the tip for future purposes.

Dline, Luke is the guy I was thinking of. Sorry to get ya mixed up. I just remember seeing your username on ClubLXOM.

Hahahaha...QWKWAGN was indeed out for a bit tonight. I was piloting it for mostly all of the shenanigans. It's a fun car no doubt....and definitely surprises quite a few people. I think the C6 Z06 was the most notable of the evening.

You may have also seen the Bluesmobile out there tonight on Woodward...which I was also driving.

Fun times tonight. :thumbsups

yep i was at the coffee shop watching the activities.....

do you rent out the blues brothers machine?

That's "in the family" too. My good buddy made a replica out of a '77 Newport (not a correct '74 Monaco). It's still awesome and people get a huge kick out of it. We throw the suits, hats and glasses on for laughs. Such as last night.

We actually have a gig lined up for Memorial Day...see here for more Blues Bros details: http://motownmuscle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95993
