After 30 years without one I am considering buying a boat and trailer. Just what kind of paperwork is involved as I can't recall. Do these have titles like cars that need to be transferred?
 
Yes they have titles. When you register it, the sticker registration is good for 3 years on a boat. For the trailer, get the permanent plate. Nothing crazy....
 
Anything transferred recently will have a title. It is however possible that someone that has own the boat for ten plus years with only have registration since titles have not always been the norm. If its just registration the seller signs off the back and you should both make up a bill of sale. SOS will honor these doc in lieu of a title
