i would look into the outdrive gearing they are different for every engine combo so i have been told and is why i didnt do what you want to do to my old boat unless you got lucky and have the mercruiser alpha 1 outdrive already on your boat or if you have the volvo penta outdrive i would just sink the whole mess

gearing is not a big deal, just use the right prop

no i dont almost was almost a diesel instructor there but my bodyshop business picked up big time so i didnt pursue it but thanks for asking makes me feel young again
