Boat Question Help me out

I have a 17.5' Galaxy bowrider with a 2.5l iron duke inboard/outboard. I want to put a chevy 350 in it. I'm thinking a self contained cooling system so I dont have to worry about the water damage. But what has to be done to mount the 350 to the outboard drive. I dont know a whole lot about the drive system but I know I could get it mounted in securley. I'm just not sure how the whole drive system works. Any Idea's or sugestions on how its done or websites that might be able to help.

usually there is a bellhousing that bolts to the block. there is a flywheel and disc just like a stick car. then a shaft that would spline into the disc. i'm thinkin that the 2.5 iron duke isn't the same bellhousing as a small block. but the bellhousin may also unbolt from the drive unit. what u have to find out is if they made a bellhousing that bolts to your driveunit and to a small block....then also the engine mount itself is ganna be different. u will then need all the accesories to bolt on a small block. alternator, hydraulics pump, depending on the setup a seawater pump....this pumps the water up to the engine...u will still need this if u run a closed system. it uses the seawater to keep the engine coolant cool....water to water cooler and also usually there is a fuel cooler and hydraulics cooler.

can I get by without a water to water cooler if I use a radiator and fans. The radiator location will have plenty of airflow
 
you might get lucky, I have a boat with a 3.0l based on the 2.5, and it has the same bellhousing as a SBC, I think all the GM Industrial/Marine motors might have used the same bellhousing

flywheel is a regular manual trans one, but you will need the proper splined coupler(attaches to the flywheel bolts, has rubber in it and the outdrive shaft fits into it)

radiator and fans hmm...i'm sure it would work but i'm not all up to date on all the safetey rules and regulations.....u may wanna look up some of the boatin rules and regulations??? as stated the bellhousin may work i'm not 100% positive what u have in ur boat. i just know theres a bellhousing backtheres in them cluster fucked boats someweres...lol....r u lookin at like a stock 350 or like some crazyness???? cause i think once u get to certain speeds and power on a boat u have to have an aftermarket steering system to keep the back drive unit stable??? maybe i'm wrong....

just an old truck motor with a fresh rebuild. not going so much for speed as i am sound and "hey thats got a v8" just a novalty thing

Make sure that the motors rotate the same direction. Some boats have a reverse rotaion engine in them.

its rare


they may be listed as ccw rotation, but remember, marine engine rotation is as viewed from the flywheel end, cars from the front/belt end
 
lol its rated to 140 so i think its just gonna be a "tired old 305" with a stamped plate that say's 140hp lol. "sir do you hear the way it idles, barely stays runnin." lol
 
boats also only have reverse rotation with twin screws, that means straight shaft drive boats common 35ft and bigger. you prob have and i/o boat with requirers normal rotation engine.
