best way to wire EWP?

as title states. I'd like to hear from the people that have had no problems because this will be my third try. Im not having good luck with it at all. I just got the car out of storage and right now my relay is clicking on (when the switched 12v engages) but no power is getting to the pump. It worked when i parked it, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I realized this about a mile down the road so Im back to wrapping the power wire directly to the battery post... again. (i tried this with the switched power wire first, the relay clicked but no action).

The reliability of this setup is really starting to concern me, yet im not sure why im having all this trouble with a such a simple electrical layout. You can assume im a miserable failure at wiring i guess....

maybe i need a better relay? what kind of relays are people using - the one i got is just a basic peice from radio shack.

if the relay is switching and no power is being outpu then the relay is bad, get a new one. Id get a 20 amp at least, not sure what your EWP pulls for amps though.

make sure the relay has power in on the constant lead, and if it has power out

yea i think the relay is bad because i am touching the switched lead to the same power source (battery) as the constant, and it still doesnt turn on.

wiring the pump directly to the constant turns it on.

yup, relay, replace it with a better relay

Go get an R3177 Borg Warner relay and use it, Way better than the crap "60Amp" relays.

I have been using it for probably 6 years with no problems yet.

Ive had a few people tell me to wire the pump DIRECTLY to a switched source in the fuse box under the hood, I know of two guys specifically that have had theirs wired that way with no problems.

what do you guys think should i stick with the relay or do that? Seems like that would eliminate a failure point but i dont want to fry anything either. Then again, maybe its better to fry a fuse box than my entire motor.

Start up current is whats most likely cuasing your problem. Try the r3177 borg werner relay. Also you might want to grab a amp probe and check current draw on the pump.
