I'll be looking for a used truck soon. I have 8k to spend so the truck will have high miles. What is the best truck? Cheapest and easiest to fix? I'll be looking at truck that are around 10 years old. Need help!!!!

5.4l 2v f150.

Other than the head gasket I just blew in mine  I haven't had any major issues in 2 truck with up to 200k miles.

Any thoughts on used Avalanches? I know they have the famous wheel speed sensor/hub replacement issue. Been looking at buying one instead of leasing another pickup. You can't argue the utility side - four full doors, but a full bed if you need it.

Ok. Looking for full size truck, pefer 4 doors. An Avalanche would be fine, but I've seen a lot with major rust.

An avalanche would be perfect for my usage, but they just seemed so damn pricey or ragged out.

I know you said truck, but I picked up a nice '03 Yukon SLT 4x4 a couple of weeks back. 120k on it, pretty damn clean, $6k. Needs a little TLC, but I've polished a turd before and will do it again.

Try to swing a 2007+. They should be much better in the rust department - that is the GMT900 body style.

They have a nice looking one at Lunghamer Chevy for $10,995 with 177k on it. I was just looking at it online yesterday thinking about what to do when my lease is up. I get all my leases from a sales guy up there, he might be able to help if you are interested.

Didn't they have problems with rusted out brake and fuel lines in those years? As well as brake rotors.

Yes. The trucks themselves can be had cheap however and I would much prefer the LM7 5.3 to the early AFM engines. GM makes pre-made brake line kits for them that makes it a relatively easy repair, and are not outrageously priced. I haven't seen as many fuel line issues as brake lines but they exist. Parts for these trucks are so abundant, cheap and easy to work on.

Over priced IMO. Unless you absolutely need a open bed, 99-07 Burbs are the best bang for the buck out there. I was actively seeking a 2500 Burb/Yukon XL last year until I came across a 1500HD for a good price.

Brake line kits are dirt cheap, I bought every hard line and rubber line except for the hard line on the axle for under $250. I found all the GM On lines on Amazon and got free prime shipping... I also did trans cooler lines this way too.

My factory lines were still leak free, and made it 13 years, I expect the updated coated lines to outlast my ownership.v

Fuel lines are not available from GM, luckily I only needed about 18" replaced and I justified the purchase of my hydraulic flaring kit.

Dorman has a hard line brake line kit for $100 for my GMT800. Fuel lines are a little more, especially since I have the flex fuel 5.3, but the whole kit is still roughly $275. Figure I'd need some flex lines for the brakes at $100...for $500 I can have all new fuel and brake lines.

I totally agree on the Yukon XL's and Suburbans - they were more plentiful and looked to be better priced and in better shape than even the Yukon/Tahoe. I just preferred the shorter vehicle. I looked at Avalanches and 800/900 pickups and they were priced much higher than the SUVs.

GM revised kit (coated brake lines) is $63 on Amazon. Dorman has stainless for $92.

This. I have a 2002 Yukon XL & love it. I can fit a full sheet of plywood in it, lots of interior space, and built really well. Before this I was driving an 09 Silverado std cab, and was looking at ext cab GM trucks. That's when I realized the burbs/Yukon's were way better priced.

I love my 04 ESV.. only issue I've had other than sensor errors for the stability and air ride is already mentioned above. I had to replace all the brakes lines at the 160k mile mark
