I'm looking to buy a decent quality folding pocket knife ($50-$100-ish) as a birthday present for someone and would like to see/feel them so don't want to just order off the internet. Who has the best selection, preferably in the Rochester area?

Thanks for asking, I've been meaning to do the same for a while now. Been on my list of new things I want.

There is a place near bfe otisville off m15 that is a hole in the wall place but has some cool knives too, i will look up the name

No good shops around. The only one I know of is in Marshal.

For $100, there isn't a better option. Spyderco Manix 2, G10.

The Delica, Endura or Native would also be good to go. The Benchmade Mini Griptilian is a great knife, no doubt. The handle is a bit short for a lot of people, myself included.

Mine is the 556 model.

Great knife, but the Delica is better value. If going with the Mini Griptilian, I would recommend getting the 555 - it has a sheep foot blade and a hole instead of stud.

I love my Delica. I've had mine for about 13 years now...still use it all the time. Super lightweight and holds a decent edge. Not sure what kind of steel they use nowadays.

Thanks everyone for all of the excellent input and suggestions. Because I had limited time and wanted to see the knives personally, I ended up purchasing a SOG Flash II Tactical pocket knife at Dick's. It matched the specs that were requested by the individual I am purchasing for, and was around $50. I am sure it is not as good as a Spyderco or Benchmade, but it fills the bill at this time. And as someone else mentioned, it can easily be returned locally if he doesn't like it. Thanks again everyone.

That is what I bought myself a few months ago. I wanted a benchmade but didn't really wanna spend more than $50 and it seemed nice. I have had no issues with it.

Matter of preference, I guess. S30V is an awesome steel in terms of strength and edge retention, but it is a bitch to sharpen. For that reason I'll go with the "inferior" 154CM.

They all have 154cm aside from the Ritter Griptilian and new G10 model, however, those are well over $100. Of all the knives I listed, only the Manix 2 has S30v - they aren't too bad to sharpen in my experience. It's also the same price (roughly) as the Mini-Grip, making it a much, much better value.

VG10 is the standard steel, still. My Delica is still my favorite, despite being the oldest.

I'd prob not ever buy a SOG myself. Best budget knife out there is the Ontario RAT and RAT 2. The best $35 you can spend on a knife.

Ok, I'm finished.

I carry a Kershaw Drone, they're dirt cheap. I want to say around $20 or less. I like that you can mail it to them and they'll clean and sharpen them for free but i'm sure not the only company that does that. I, like JSX have a tendency to lose or break knives so I wont buy anything too fancy.

I also prefer a "cheaper" knife for my EDC. Most of the time I have my Kershaw Scallion on me. I got it for $25 at the gun and knife show in Novi.

I have a Kershaw myself. The person that asked for the knife did not want the spring-type locking mechanism. He is happy with the SOG.
