So, I am having problems with my grand prix again. I get in it yesterday to go take my buddy to get his car from the dealer and I hope on the E-way and shifts fine from 1-2-3, but then im cruising at 65-70 and I look and my motors doing 3000 rpm, normally its like 2000 at that speed, so i let off thinking it just thinks im still accelerating, waiting for it to downshift. but that never happens. so I get off, turn my car off, check the fluid and see if just restarting the car will eliminate the issue, everything is right where its supposed to be. so I start it up and hope back on the e-way, but still no fourth gear. any clues guys???? I talked to my buddy and that happened to their grand prix, and it was the actual gear for fourth. was not made of a hardened material and wore down. Im hoping thats not my problem, because it cost him 2300 to fix.

does anyone have ideas?

Ik it needs general tech, but I also was gonna ask for opinions on what to do if it is the 2300 dollar fix.

I have been saving for a new truck. Should I just forget it and not put the money into the car and go for my truck or what?

I bought the car for 3850 and have had it for a little over a year, and it has a few other issues, but was still drivable until now.

what should I do, I feel helpless without a car to drive to work. seeing as its all highway and my car cant go over 50

Junk it $2300 is too much to waste on it. Get a new Ford Raptor.:thumbsup:

make sure its going to the normal operating temp, a stuck open thermostat wont let the converter lock up, also get a scanner and watch the trans data. and if im not mistakin the harness for the trans has problems with wires breaking , look for the big oval shape connector (16 wires?)and check all the pins, ive seen them bent over because someone jammed the connector in the trans
i think its the 4t60e trans might be a 4t653 (same thing) they also have soleniod problems and valve body issues with sticking valves

When my 99 grand prix trans went. They wanted 2500 to fix it, 3200 for a like new transplant, and I ended up paying 975 for an untouched junk yard transplant. Been running great ever since.

I have been having alot of cooling issues. my fans are constantly running for some reason now. I replaced the temp sensor and that worked for a few days then the fans started coming on constantly but i dont know where to start with all the electrical.

if your having cooling isssues then check the parts associated with that...as said above, a bad thermostat wont allow the tranny to shift to overdrive.
 
I am going to check it out tonight. hopefully thats it. it could also be a sensor on the tranny. so hopefully all will be well
