Automatic transmission needed ASAP!!!

Crazzy_Al

Mr. Hair Gel Overgeller
My next door neighbor's transmission in his wife's 1997 F-250 went out the out day and he's very straped for cash and needs a reliable replacement, and cheap. Can anyone help me? If I am not mistaken the trans needed is a E4OD...right? Some of you would probably know better than me.

Can anyone help?!?

Thanks.

His wife told me that the when the tow truck driver came to pick up the truck to bring it to their house he noticed that there wasn't a drop of trans fluid in the trans. They park their trucks in their driveway and there is no trans fluid in the driveway anywhere and the truck had a trans fluid change (by a QuickLube type of company) a month or two earlier. WTF?!?!?

sounds like somebody needs to be talking with them not looking for a trans they are liable

Borked trans line to the trans cooler... all the fluid is all over the last road she drove on... for probabaly 50 miles or so.

Maybe a stupid question, but did anybody try putting fluid in it?
yeah that would be the first thing i do

i broke my e40d last month im putting one in right now, im about to go finish i got lucky and found one for $100 but the cheapest junkyard i found that had one was leroy's in mt. clemens they wanted $300 for it, but this is a 4x4 one, if he doesnt have 4x4 then it might be cheaper and easier to find...

They are in the process of doing this now...but just in case, they may just buy a trans and have the shop reimberse them...if the shop is liable. They need this truck to live. The husband owns his own biz as a siding/window, etc guy, and the wife uses her truck for her business of cleaning offices. The husband has been using his cube van as almost a DD since they work opposite hours and she is driving his pickup right now.

It IS a 4x4 truck. Sorry, I should have mentioned that earlier. Any idea on the condition of the one at Leroys? When did you see it there?

i didnt see it personally was just calling around, you cant really tell at a junkyard if its good or not...because if the car is smashed they say well the trans had to work for them to get into a accident or some bullshit like that, they smell the fluid to see if it smells burnt or not also...they do give you a warranty though most of the time to guarantee it works but that just covers the parts and not the labor...its a bitch to change trust me i just drove my shit around the block, i had it done earlier but ran into a few other problems along the way...its so hard cause there is no flat spot to put the jack under and it always wants to spin cause the transfer case is off centered...my buddy said he would put mine in for $300 but i didnt have the cash to do it then but after what i went through i should have paid, lol....so if they need sombody to install it let me know and i can give you my boys number he is a very good mechanic and is pretty fast about getting his shit done and out...

Thanks for the info. I just know that my neighbor is going to ask me to help with the swap if he finds a trans and decides to do the work himself. Boy am I excited.

I will try to get ahold of a guy I know of tommorrow. He worked at livonia trans and rebuilds them for 500 including parts

Good to know. Thanks.

By the way, that wouldn't included removal and reinstallation, would it? If not, please also check on that.

John's right about the transfer case, heavy fucker, and off center oblong
shape. I did one in an old Chevy truck back in the early 90's.
I got mine down using two jacks and a man riding the tailshaft to
stabilize it. We took two bolts out, inserted dowel pins, took out the rest of the bolts, then removed the dowels and lowered the unit. All this on my
dirt driveway in February! NEVER,NEVER,NEVER AGAIN!
Did I mention NEVER AGAIN!?!?!?!
