Trying to see who has an interest in the MI or OH area about auto x. I started 2 years ago doing only 2 event in my stock 09 Cobalt SS/TC, and now I'm building an ESP mustang to hopefully a decent national competitor.
Looking for pics, talks, events, whatever auto x related
I will hopefully have time to try it this summer. I've never done auto-x, just HPDE road courses. 1993 Taurus SHO Automatic. The one part that worries me slightly is getting tossed in a class with fully modified cars.
I've done springs/struts, rear sway bar, brake upgrades, soon to be complete subframe swap. but its still a big heavy Taurus.
If you've never run before, don't worry about classing. You're not going to be competitive anyway. Go, have fun, hit a few cones, and learn to drive your car at the limit.
You can find all the excuses in the world if you want. Just show up and do it.
I might make it out to a couple. I think I made it to one all of last year. My focus has kind of shifted towards track days and budget endurance racing. The ones I do make it to will be sweet though. You won't be able to miss me, I'm sure there won't be another CTS-V wagon at an event.
Don't worry about being competitive, if you're just getting started, you won't be competitive in stock class with a stock vehicle, honestly. Just go out and have fun and learn the handling of your car and how to read a course. Talk to people, most are friendly, ride with some people, etc.
If you're looking for the local events, most are on that my auto events site but not all are. The "miscellaneous" clubs have kind of an alliance whose home is here: http://dcscc.blogspot.com/
My dad runs his Charger through the Auto xes they have at all the Goodguys shows and what not now. He has a blast with it. I drove it at Americruise through the auto x there, holy shit it is boaty but it was still a lot of fun. It doesn't really matter what you have, if you bring it out you'll have a good time.
Just coilovers on a civic might not be too bad actually for classing.
As for me I run NWOR (North West Ohio Region) since Toledo isnt far away and I like the big airport and became friends with some of the competitors. www.nworscca.com for the people more south in MI
I've ran one DRSCCA event last year @ the silverdome and will try to be making more this year.
Normally I'd agree with you, however, my car is an exception.
The spring rates are barely stiffer than stock, and I've cut the suspension travel by over 50%. It's not going to handle worth a shit unless I raise it up a couple inches.
Still would be fun.
