Auto Trans Help - 95 Exploder 4x4 4.0

My cousins exploder will shuts down immediately when placed into either Drive or Reverse. Same deal when trying to put it into 1st or 2nd.

Drained the fluid, put in a new filter and fluid... no change.

Would this be a Trans or Torque Converter issue? Or something else?

Also I'm looking for the necessary parts to fix this, if anyone has them.

Almost forgot the best part... LMFAO. My not so smart cousin seemed to think his trans was low on fluid... which was not the case, anyways he proceeded to add a full quart of CHRYSLER trans fluid, since he thought all ATF was the same.... :shake: (ID-10-T Error)

The trans was working ok prior to that incident ... he stated it was making a 'grinding' noise and driving funny ... so he checked the trans fluid when the vehicle was not warmed up, added the wrong ATF, drove it 15 miles and it quit on him.

It would start up and stall out as soon as it was put in Drive or Reverse. He got it going somehow, and drive it back 15 miles. Now the only way to get the thing going is push the car while running in neutral, then toss it in Drive and give it some throttle. Then it still bucks around and wants to stall out... but if you keep it moving, it will not stall. If you bring it to a stop, it will buck and stall out.

Thanks in advance

Where is the Converter apply valve?

Inside the trans? or can it be accessed by dropping the pan?

Otherwise you think this is just a converter issue? Simple as replacing the converter if the apply valve is ok?

That happened to my dads 94 explorer and he ended up having to put a new trans in it. Did the same thing that your cousins is doing. Does it stay running if you leave it in neutral?
