Authentic plate

So thinking about getting an authentic plate for my car, was wondering how much of a hassle it is to drive with one.

Anyone get pulled over more with one? etc

Planning to drive the car but wont be using it to commute or anything like that.

I run one, never had an issue. They are good for as long as you own the car. Historical plates expire, these don’t.

I have one on my Chevelle and never had a problem - But as Krazybones would say, you need to drive your car in order to get into trouble :)

I think Matt also has one on his car....

FWIW - I found a guy who does a most excellent job of restoring your plate - $40 and he is in Sterling Heights near 16 Mile and Mound...

grr

I have them on multiple vehicles, For the summer I only have one vehicle with a normal plate and drive a car with authentic plates most days. Never had an issue yet

I've been running authentic plates for about 15 years on several vehicles, and I've never had an issue.
If you ever get pulled over, just remember - there's always a car show somewhere every day of the week. That's where you were headed. :)
I do recommend buying them in pairs if possible, just to ensure no one has the plate already registered.
And, in case anyone is looking - I like to get mine from Mad Max's in Chelsea:

I thought about doing it for my 53 dodge ... but I drive it to work often and didnt want the hassle....
and my 78 marquis is the 76 plate with stickers .. and looks stupid ... the 76 plate should have been 1 year only

also the rules say I cant make my own plate ... cutting and welding numbers in ... which is the only way I would do it ....

Thanks for all the input, appreciate the responses.

The LEIN info is a little worrying.

It will be going on an 87 Grand National. Have some thinking to do.

There was a video a few years back where some blowhard asshat cop pulled over an older couple for exactly this, vintage plate on a classic car that wouldn't show in the LEIN database, had the owners on the ground and all. At that moment I ordered a personal plate and put my vintage plates back on the shelf. I have considered putting one on the front of the car (I have the pair).

From what I gathered and what most have already said, you should be fine buttttttttt there is a chance that you get the wrong cop having a shit day.

A friend in his Turbo T would get pulled over every now and then with the blue plate on it. I went Historical for this exact reason.

haha yes Gary has never had a problem because his car never gets driven. Well except in and out of the garage onto a trailer.

I have had my car for 20 years. All 20 years I have had the same 1967 authentic plate on it with no issues. I also had it on my 70 chevelle and 71 Monaco with no issues. I am just waiting for the governor to open shit back up to put my 1950 plate on my pontiac.

Take it for what it's worth, but my opinion is that if the wouldn't be universally considered a classic I wouldn't do it. My reasoning is that not everyone is a car person or considers a car from the 80's a classic or historic so I wouldn't take a chance on the officer behind me connecting the dots and making it a hastle.
