auctions - why do people not research what they are bidding on??

x2

I think people get more caught up in winning the bid instead of getting a good deal. Happens all the time on CL and EBay too.

Bingo, ive sold snap on stuff for 2-3 times retail on ebay, live auctions are even better Ive seen items with the store price tag on them go for silly cash

As far as ebay goes, people tend to pay over retail, but they have a bunch of ebay bucks saved up that they pay with. Thus, they still come out ahead in terms of what they pay.

I have said this about a thousand times! People are dumb! I go to auctions daily or at least I sit at my computer and watch them if I can. I see tons of items bring not only more then it does on ebay but close to retail prices. People get excited and just bid. I also see alot of so called dealers paying retail just to win. You can price just about anything by going to ebay sold listings. Just because some moron is asking $45000 for an item that sold for $800 doesn't mean you paying $5000 is a good deal!

I see that all the time on repocast. Hate that site because of that. I will bid while it's a good deal and then I'm out. Not paying anywhere close to retail for a used item. Might as well buy it new if I am spending that much.

Most people don't think twice about if something is overpriced or not, be it an auction or standard retail.

x100. I also think most people don't take into account the fees/taxes

I just had this convo with a coworker. He was telling everyone how he felt guilty that a guy paid $20 plus shipping for a $5 part. We all told him that if the buyer is that dumb, its thier fault. They were the ones that drove the price up.

I purchase a lot of things at various auctions. It is true, if you
don’t research & know the value of something, you’re most
likely going to go wrong.

Bottom line, most folks aren’t very good with their finances to
begin with, auctions tend to simply prove it.

Ive paid to much for stuff sometimes....

ive been guilty for time to time, but when I spend more its usually stuff I want for myself. Ask me how many theater chairs I have in my basement.......

What's considered a good deal on a chair? How many do you have?
