Going up with a few buddies, staying in Mio. Getting up there friday night, riding saturday and first part of sunday. If anyone wants to ride with us, call or text me 734-765-2692. Ill be on a 300ex, so im a slow poke, but should still be fun!

You have a cabin up there or?
We have a place on AuSable Lk.. usually ride the Bull Gap / Mio / South Branch area

Got plans this weekend or else I'd cruise up there.

I'm sure you'd have no problem if it has the stock exhaust.. All he needs is an ORV sticker.
The DNR I've run into up there are pretty nice and not out looking to see what they can ticket you for.

Technically he would need to be 12 years old, under direct adult supervision and possess a ORV safety certificate.
I don't think you'd have an issue with him being 11, but not having the ORV safety certificate might get ya a ticket

Now if he was riding a dirt bike there is no age requirement, just direct adult supervision and ORV safety certificate.. lol.

Here is a link with the laws... The pages you'd want to read are 29-32.

I did a quick Google search, I'm coming up with a place called "Wheels to go" @ 5501 HARRINGTON RD CROSWELL, MI 48422
More info here https://online.svia.org/training/Enroll/EnrollIntro.aspx

Also found this:

"Michigan Law: Chapter 324 · Act 451 of 1994, MCL 324.81129

(12) Subject to subsections (13), (14), (17), and (18), a child who is less than 16 years of age shall not operate an ORV unless the child is under the direct visual supervision of an adult and the child has in his or her immediate possession an ORV safety certificate issued pursuant to this section or a comparable ORV safety certificate issued under the authority of another state or a province of Canada."

Which means you might be able to have him do the online ORV Safety course from Wisconsin and still be legal in Michigan.
It's only 15 and can be done online... you only pay the $15 when you pass, unlimited attempts.

if he has an afterarket muffler on back it just has to be spark arrested...if not you can pick up a sparky for like 30$ i think.

True but if the aftermarket muffler is loud enough you will draw unwanted attention from the DNR.

How strict on loud pipes are they? Looking to take a vacation here soon and the pipe on mine is pretty loud

Depends on who you run into and how loud your machine actually is... if they can hear it echoing thru the forest they'll be looking for ya.
I wouldn't bet on you getting a ticket, but I wouldn't say its out of the question either... all depends where you are riding and who you run into

ive ridden the mio trail system many times on a 300ex, bullgap too. i had alot of fun. i stepped up to a 686 raptor, and then a 09 kawi 450 now, but i had just as much fun on the 300 believe it or not. haha

id be willing to bet its not as loud as kevins cut dasa, or nick ayers quad last year. not to mention jesse's yfz and my kfx both have some pretty loud pipes on em, we rode an entire day in mio last year didnt see one dnr and you could literally hear kevins bike for miles.

you'll be fine.

Haha alright just wanted to make sure, maybe we should do some testing before hand and see how the trailer park feels about it!

What kind of ground do they have there? Typical michigan sand? Never bothered me on my Banshee, now I have a YZ 250 and the sand just wears my fat ass out.

Some of you guys may appreciate the info that Jeremy provides on this website: http://www.vvmapping.com/trails/trailInfoMI.html

Bull Gap is generally sandy and whooped out on the north half, more hard pack/rocky in the lower half and not as whooped. That hill climb in the videos is deep/loose sand.
Mio, I would say, is a typical northern lower trail. Fairly sandy...

Heck when I had a bike I rode all those trails with a shorty non spark arrested silencer and the DNR never blinked an eye. I stopped and talked with them on more than one occasion over the years.

My buddy has a cabin in MIO real close to the city. My family recently sold our place on loon lake loop across from the pink store.
