Apparently, you can't fix stupid in Camp Mustang...

Trans, diff, and brake cooling are not needed to run one lap of any track in the US. They become necessary when you want to run many consecutive laps at 10/10ths. This entire fight is ridiculous. The fact is that neither one of these cars will be used in actual competition so calling them "race cars" isn't correct. 1. They don't fit into any sanctioning body's classing. 2. Superchargers (especially Roots type) suck on the track. No matter how big of an intercooler and radiator you put in, you can't keep them cool for 40 minutes of hard driving. Additionally, the people who do buy them won't drive them hard enough at open track days to show any differences between the two. The fact is that both the GT500 and the ZL1 will still go slower than a 10 year old Z06 driven by a guy who actually knows how, and is willing, to drive it to its potential.

Autoblog ran ZL1 at a drag strip. Wouldn't say exactly but said "mid-12s at 114 mph".

From what I understand, it doesn't need any options to keep up in a straight line. On a track, I don't know if you'd need the Perf. Pack or not to hold its own. Point is, there are people who don't want any options and only want the biggest, baddest muscle car out there. Drag racers aren't going to check all the options, and I wouldn't be surprised if the hardcore guys take stuff off the ZL1 to lighten it up a bit. There's no denying what they've done with the ZL1 isn't impressive, just the manner in which they are trying to market it is a bit obnoxious and classless. I'm glad that Pericak and the Ford team have taken the high road and will let the car do the talking. I'm sure SVT will let more info go as it gets closer to launch.

Wow, so you start a thread called "You can't fix Stupid in Camp Camaro" and then you call the Chief Engineer of the Camaro classless? Hypocrite much?

Yep, sure did. Not sure how that qualifies as being a hypocrite. He's leading the doublewide charge with the Camaro faithful and keeps feeding them banter to hold them over until the cars start showing up at dealerships. I'm not sure if his antics are a marketing ploy or simple ignorance on his part, but my personal opinion is that it's classless and unprofessional from someone in his position.

Go back to swinging on your GM ballsack now.

I've seen more mustangs parked outside of a double wide (nothing wrong with it) than Camaros.

Go back to swinging on Ford's nuts.

my instincts tell me otherwise.

i feel like it's meant as friendly competition, but it didn't come out quite right. maybe his words were taken out of context? at any rate, i'll never get over the 4,120 curb weight. i know i bring it up a lot, but that is a cardinal sin as far as i'm concerned.

I'm just dumping fuel on the fire. I am a big, big fan of both platforms. I've been drooling over the thoughts of getting a white with red interior drop top GT.

Let's see - you are a hypocrite because you do something classless while making an accusation of someone being classless. Is that clear enough? There is definitely a bit of irony in there too. Want me to explain that word for you?

Ah yes, the classic "Camaro Vs Mustang" debate, a timeless classic like both aforementioned cars...internet gold. :)

thanks, but I still stand by my previous statement.

From a dead dig with a garden variety driver the ZL1 will beat the GT500.....simply due to the automatic.

OK, I rubbed it in enough on the phone, I just had to update this thread. I'm done now.

Stock for stock the GT500 is ahead leaps and bounds. However your not going to find much power in the GT500 by basic mods, its "on kill" from the factory. Heads/Cam/Pulley on the ZL1 and it will make the GT500 its bitch.

Blah blah blah, you can add boost to the 500 also. Once you start talking about cams and heads it doesn't matter what you started with (at this performance level).

Both cars are great, but the GT500 is obviously the clear winner in straight line performance. The fact that people thought the automatic would make the camaro win is just kinda funny. The stick doesn't slow a car down until you're in the 10's in my experience....and we're talking about brand new factory cars here.

Geesh, I don't know where to stand on this one :ohnoes: As a 3 time 3rd gen F-Body owner and a current 2nd gen while daily driving my MUSTANG I'm all types of confused! All I know is that, I wouldn't kick either of them out of bed for eating cookies, per se, and I'll never be able to own either anyhow! But if the overall feel of the base models, ie the SS, and the GT are any indication (I know, not really) then the Mustang hands down. :poke:

agreed.

We can all agree that Stock vs stock is one thing and modified vs modified is another

Blah blah blah, the only way your going to add boost to the GT500 is by a new blower. That little sissy one is maxed out already. It has a BIGGER blower than the ZL1 and its maxed out from the factory. You cannot put a smaller pulley on the GT500's TVS2300. So then what are your options...heads/cams/exhaust? Sure...there is 35hp..

Again, I have NO problem admitting that STOCK for STOCK the GT500 is going to win in a straight line vs the ZL1. With a bigger blower and more boost, why would it not? However once your throw a little money into both cars, which I will assume most owners will...the ZL1 will be superior due to the transmission and responsiveness to modifications.

Right, but it's already bigger than the one on the camaro. Not only that, but you just suggested the camaro needed heads and cam

Your argument is super weak. There is nothing to debate. Both great cars, one is faster without question.

My argument is super weak? Buy a GT500, do equal mods to our shop ZL1 and lets see what happens. ;)

Your argument is that the GT500 is faster, and I agree, stock. My argument is once modded, its a different story.

OK.. I'm out, not with it... . what's TTMMF?

I love the shit stirring from those that likely can't even afford either one. It's choosing which team you want to live vicariously through. Sadly, I roll with vintage red velour, so neither one fits the bill..:pimp:
