AOD trans In a 84 Mustang GT question.

I have a 84 Mustang GT with carb'd 5.0 and a AOD trans In It and a lokar TV cable. Has anyone ever used a lokar TV cable before ? I am trying to figure out the best way to adjust the cable so I can get the trans to shift through all 4 gears. I was told with the carb at WOT pull the TV cable tight and that Is adjusted. I am trying to get It to shift good and not have to have It high In the rpm's and not have slippage at low crusing speed (30~35mph).

Technically you are supposed to have a pressure gauge on the trans and adjust the cable @ idle to a certain PSI. But the way that I have understanded it and have seen it done is to have the throttle closed with the TV arm released and lock the cable in at that point with no slack in the cable. Apparently thats the way it was done on the line when the cars were built..

This is correct, however, when you install a carburetor, your cable pull is not the same. Basically the geometry gets screwed up, and it will never shift correctly.
They make adaptors for both Holley and Edelbrock carburetors that correct the geometry. Once installed, you still should use a gauge. You will also most likely need a return spring mounted on the tv lever below. The original cable has a spring built on to it to return the lever.
