AOD Shift Kits??

Recently we picked up a 1968 Mustang Convertible with a 302 (carb'd) and an AOD. This is a shared summer cruiser for my Wife and myself. Later this month we are installing a set of TFS heads,Weiand Stealth intake, a roler cam, a 2500 rpm converter and shortie headers--all parts purchased and waiting for my time available to install them. My question for the experts is regarding a shift kit for this combo. Tell me if I am asking to much from one, I want it to shift smooth like stock under part throttle but at WOT I want 1-2 to shift at 5-5500 and similar for the 2-3 point and hit the gear hard and quick. Sorry if this sounds dumb but I have zero experience with the AOD as the race car runs a Dynamic M2 C4 with a manual valve body. Can anyone educate me on what a kit can or cannot do for our AOD?

Thanks!!

Aod's are a pain to get to shift with even/correct firmness and rpm.
The valve bodies themselves are prone to wear, especially on the pressure regulator valve and bore. The also have aluminum end plugs that leak badly, causing shift firmness and timing issues. They sell repair/replacement parts.
The transgo performance kit uses the low reverse boost valve circuit to boost line pressure when you move the shifter into the lower ranges. It works well in that it will shift very firm when you pull the shifter down, and shift comfortable when the shifter is left in od. Higher line pressure = firmer shifts and more holding power.
As for shift timing, the transgo kit gives you a lighter governor valve to raise the rpm. Dont expect to get the 1-2 and 2-3 at exact rpms wot. You may experience 5-700 rpm difference at wot.
The geometry of the throttle and where the cable attaches is very important. Most people throw away their fuel injection and install a Holley or edelbrock carb and attach a lokar cable. The TV pressure gets all screwed up as a result and most times leads to clutch/band failure. They also sell a bracket that corrects the gemontry. Use a guage to set tv pressure (you can research how searching google) . This very problem is why some companies sell a constant pressure valve body. It eliminates the possibility of screwing up cable/pressure adjustments.

All good info. Thanks!!

Get the Baumann shift kit. It's easy to install. The 1-2 shift will always be 500 rpms higher than the 2-3 shift due to the area (squared) of the governor land of the shift valves. lokar makes a decent TV swap cable kit that works good.
