Anyone want to to the Hot Rod Power Tour?

I'm still planning on doing the whole deal with the Lightning. Reminded my boss yesterday that I was planning on taking that week off. Haven't actually registered yet though.

Dad's going to long haul the Charger as well.

I really want to go too but I figured it would be a bitch to find a place to stay at night by this time. I do have an old challenger I would take but again, no one to go with. I'd be interested in hearing more from you guys and would love to get in with you if possible.

Oh this is soooo cool. I hadn't heard of this before.
Wish I had a sweet set of wheels right now, I think
I'd do it!

Isn't that how it works, when you have the car, you
don't have the time, have the time, no car!!!

yes

I went in 2007 and it was a blast.

I've got nothing running right now, but I'm doing it one way or another.

Rumor has it that GM is completely pulling out of the Power Tour. The tour has already lost a ton of sponsors, but this is huge, they did so much stuff. It sounds like they are even working on another location(as opposed to the tech center) for the Detroit stop.

Wow to GM being out to the point that the Tech center is removed from being a stop. That's a blow. There are lot of other good size places around that they should be able to figure something else out I would think though. The Palace, DTE, Rock Financial Show Place, International Motorsports Hall of Fame (plus that would get more visitors than it has had during a non induction ceremony time ever) and I'm sure the more you thought the more places you could come up with. Then they just need to get the details worked out with the location.

I went on the Power Tour in my 97 Trans Am from San Bernardino to Phoenix in 00 and in 01 from Barstow to SB and had a blast. It's fantastic driving with so many muscle cars. You fuckers are lucky it comes right to Detroit. I'm bummed out that it hasn't been out west since 01.

That could be changing. Obviously there are a few logistical reasons they've kept it in the midwest, but GM's backing was always a HUGE part of it.

There is still nothing official about GM pulling out. In last month's HR, they re-iterated that they were committed to the tour. Like my one buddy pointed out, GM has it's name on literally EVERYTHING that the Power Tour does(registration, mailing cards, ads, ect.). But like I told him, the government is involved now, they could have put the kabosh on it. The tour is scheduled to start the same week as GM's deadline.

There was something on the GM intranet about it this morning that made it very official. I was going to quote it and post it but it is gone now. It was dated May 15. It said GM was going to help Hot Rod find a new location. Also said they weren't having it at Warren so employees could focus on the task at hand or some crap.

Edit:
found it
Will the 2009 Hot Rod Power Tour Make a Stop at the Tech Center?

Original Question: There are rumors flying that the Hot Rod Power Tour 2009 was told that they can no longer stop at the GM Tech Center on Tuesday June 9th. If the event is sponsored by the GM Performance Parts Division, why would GM cancel the stop at the Tech Center? Isn't this a tremendous advertising opportunity at a time when our company desperately needs a bit of "good press?"

The Hot Rod Power Tour was scheduled to stop at the GM Warren Tech Center on June 9th to participate in special events planned for the day. GM has decided not to host the stop on the tour, so that the employees remain focused on restructuring GM for continued success in the future. We regret the timing of this decision, and are working with the Hot Rod Team for a replacement location for the stop.
