Anyone Take a Lap on Nürburg? Experiences?

I'm going to be in Belgium in early November and I'm considering a day trip over to Nürburg to take 1 lap in the rental car (nothing fancy) on the Nürburgring. Anyone ever done this? Worthwhile? Looking for some input, but it seems like a no brainier.

I've read a few reviews and they were all very positive. One of those "gotta do it while you're there"... it's pricey though. Most people reporting something around $1000 all in.

I've done it and it's worthwhile. I rented a car through rsrnurburg.com. If you want to drive, I'd look at renting a "race" car. You can get a Suzuki Swift or Renault Clio from 99-120 euro. The rentals will be track prepped and include track insurance. You'll want to drive two or three laps. I drove four, but that was a bit much due to mental fatigue. Be warned its ~50 euro per foot of concrete barrier to be repainted and 200 euro per foot of guardrail to be replaced in ~3 meter increments.

Check out Nurburg castle and the various race shops. Find one of the many spectator points around the track. It looks like tourist drives are weekends only in November, so plan accordingly. If you're free day is during the week, go anyways and you'll probably see a lot of OEM testing.

Thanks - Yes, Saturday November 8th would be the only day I could do it. Looks like they're only open from 1:30-4:30pm. I'd probably do the castle and such in the morning, and then head over to the track in the afternoon.

Honestly, I think I'd be content with doing a single lap. Would I be crazy to think about taking a standard Hertz rental car on there for 1 slow lap? Renting the racecar makes a lot of sense if you're looking to make a day out of it... I really just want to check the box though. I know I can control myself - I'm just not sure about all of the yahoos going crazy around me... or how busy the track will be in November.

Do not take a standard rental car on the track. It's a big no-no and you'll probably end up paying a fine. There are cameras looking at license plates and Hertz will find out.

Get a ride in a Ring Taxi if you want to go on the track without renting a car at the track.

I think you might be surprised at how much fun the taxi can be. BMW has drivers there that do this, do a search for it, pretty awesome as well

Yea, I just tent to get motion sick in certain cars when I'm not driving. If I'm driving, it's all good. It just depends on the car, suspension and how smooth (or more like - not smooth) the person is driving. I suspect, given the course, it probably wouldn't work out all that well.

I think I've committed to renting a car, driving over there on a Sat morning, renting the cheapest "racecar" I can (~ 100 euro) and doing 2 laps. They're only open for 3 hours... and god knows what the weather is going to be like... but I think it would still be worth doing in a downpour for < $200.

Same here. I can go bezerk in a car when I'm driving without issue... but, years ago, I went for a ride in a Viper with an instructor from the Richard Petty school and felt like I was going to puke
