Anyone make cut outs in their front bumper for better cooling (Fox body)

My car gets hot as hell without the fan on especially on warmer 80+ degree days. Even going down the freeway I have to keep the fan on to keep the bitch at 180 degrees. The GT's only have that one opening at the bottom of the bumper and I have an intercooler, trans cooler and radiator all sandwiched right in that area. I was considering maybe trying to cut a couple holes in the bumper to try and get some air up higher to cool it better. Any one ever do this? I really dont want to hack my car up but it really bothers me that I cant go a long distance trip without worrying about my car overheating. I also considered the Cobra grill insert thing, but not sure if that would make much of a difference..... Any input?

Is the black bottom air damn still installed? That pulls air from the ground up to teh rad area. Also the side shields on either side of the radiator directs the air through it. Without those you're not going to get optimal air directed through the rad without teh fan creating the low pressure to pull it there. Not to mention the fan being there causes that flowing air to be turbulant and not flow through very well unless it's spinning and pulling it through.

On another note, my car with only a trans cooler and a Be Cool radiator would not stay under 190 with the fans off, but all of the above was removed. I don't think it's uncomon to leave the fans on when the putside temps are this high. I think you're over thinking this. What is you're problem with running the fan all the time. I did it for 6 years with 2 SPAL fans running the majority of the time. I didn't really take alot of freeway trips, but did alot of city driving in one shot, like 70 plus miles a night.

If you're worried about your fan burning up, take it off and buy a quality one. Let it run, and rest assured you'll keep the car cool. Also 180 isn't shit in this temperature. I never flinched untill mine hit 210 for more than any real time. Just gotta make sure it isn't spiking fast. and in my opinion, with all that stuff up front you want the fan to pull the air through to make sure everything is getting fresh air. Also do you have a cowl hood? That hot air needs to go somewhere. Ok sorry for the ling winded post...

Do you still have your lower air deflector on? They are pretty popular to remove but actually help out a fair amount.
Yeah I still have that on the car, never removed it

Im not worried about the fan burning up, its an old Taurus fan (heard they pull more air then most aftermarket ones) I just remember before I put the turbo on I never had cooling problems. I know that I added alot of extra heat with the turbo and piping but damn that bitch gets hot. I cant remember if I removed those rubber flaps on either side of the radiator when I mounted the intercooler or not. I want to say I left them on. I just figured because I added the tranny cooler and intercooler that the rad was no longer getting enough flow

I'm betting you just introduces enough turbulance and heat producing stuff it's causing you a small issue which gets cleared up as you introduce a suction/draw direction. If it's not pushing the gauge constantly upwards i wouldn't worry a bit about it.
