This is weird coming from a certified semi truck diesel mechanic cummins certified lol but i am baffled. My buddy has a 2006 dodge ram quad cab 5.9 ltr cummins diesel the fault code showed bad #5 injector
or bad bank for #5 so we took the valve cover off he had some weird idea to switch #2 injector with #5 to rule out the bad injector, But the injectors on the smaller cummins engines are not like semi trucks i know they are just pup in pry out type style with 2 bolts but could not get the injector out he thought it was screw out i was like no its pop out style but he took the injector apart put it back together now the truck only blows white smoke trying to start does not start though just puffs major white smoke and actually puffs the white smoke not only out the exhaust also puffs it back through the air intake box. I'm thinking he has 2 bad injectors now that's the only thing it can be it ran before he started messing with the #2 injector just had no power what so ever but these injectors are 500 dollars each so before we replace them any suggestions on if it is an injector? or possibly something else ?

I'm not an expert by any means, but it sounds like one or more injectors are stuck or leaking. Lots of miles on the truck? I don't know much about the Cummins engines, but with a D-Max, thats usually the case when there's a lot of white smoke. The other reason is usually bent rods, but that's not likely with a Cummins.

yeah i figured it out after i sat and thought about it the injectors are electronic didnt realize the negative battery cables were still hooked up there are 3 things that can bee wrong he could of put the rockers on backwards so its reverse now , the #2 injector is messed up from taking it apart as well as the origional #5 , or the ecm is shorted out from not removing the batt cables ok wait one more from trying to remove the injector the o ring could have been tore. Dodge dealership time .. ouch lol
