I'm interviewing with a company in the DALLAS (Wylie) area & dont really know anything about the area. The good/bad areas, housing costs, schools (I have 4 kids) ..... ect.
I'm doing alot of internet researech but would like to hear from people who live there. Its a big move for me as I would have no family or freinds there, but I'm tired of my job and they just announced a plant closing & there is nothing here with the econmy in the condition its in.

Thanks for any help!!

I lived in oklahoma for 6 years in the service. Used to go to Dallas alot. From what i remember housing is so much cheaper I paid 67,000 for my house which would have been shoot prolly 120,000 up here. Any econmony has to be better then the one we have here. Plus its a great place to party and them texas boys do it big street wise....

I grew up in Dallas, lived there for 20 years.

If your working out in Wylie, you will want to look at north Richardson or Plano. Rockwall and Rowlett are both ok, but much higher cost since you are near Lake Ray Hubbard (decent fishing / sport lake).

Housing there, as compared to here, is great. In Richardson, you can get around 1800sqft for ~100k.

Stay away from South Dallas and Garland.

Edited to add: Both Plano and Richardson have pretty good schools (plano probably better)

I'm pretty sure Roadrage was in "Texas" for a while. I've been to "Texas", but it wasn't for too long. I had a good lawyer

If I'm not mistaken, Reckless on this board lived in TX for a good piece of time. Near houston I think.

They say only 2 things come from texas...steers & queers & You don't have any horns!

Your about the 100'th person to quote that for me.

Seems like everyone I know is against us moving there, mostly my family. You wouldnt belive how many times I've gotten "Your taking my whole life away from me", "I'm never going to see my grandkids", my mother in law was ready to beat the shit out of me the other night. Literally!!!

Like I told her, if shes willing to support us, put a roof over our heads & feed everyone.... I'm more than happy to stay. (Oh... & pay for the car too..lol)
But I know thats not going to happen & I cant find crap here & I dont think my plant is going to be around much longer.

I'm still looking, have resumes out all over the country.... Hopefully something pans out soon.

I lived in Rockwall actually, very nice area. Plano is more expensive than Rockwall and Rowlett. I will tell you one thing, if you have kids in school, you can't beat the Rockwall schools. Nicest I have ever seen, and I have been around.

FWIW, I had a 2400sqft, single-story, 1/3 acre corner lot, sprinkler system, community pool, 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, 2 car garage, 6-foot privacy fence in rear, brand new home for $159,000 ..... I hate Michigan real estate....fucking rip off here.

How were the taxes compared to here?
I would imaging everything else as far as cost of living would be the same?

What was so bad about it.

Really?

I need honest opinions here, its a huge move for me as I would be moving my whole family there (Wife & 4 kids)

Thanks.

No state income tax in Texas! Sales tax is a little higher at 8%, and 6.25% on vehicles. Property tax is a little higher, but not too bad, and mostly depends on the school district.
